Pankookis 10 Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 Hi Why does Emby make .vtt files instead of .srt when I convert files? I read in another old thread that it was for the mobile profile. But I use the custom one and use it to save space for some tv shows. Kodi can't display .vtt's and I can't find a good way to batch convert the files. Can this be changed so I get to choose which subtitle to have or that the subtitles remain in the .mkv container?
Carlo 4561 Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 Hi, are you referring to the CONVERT feature or did you mean when Emby transcodes on the fly?
Pankookis 10 Posted February 11, 2021 Author Posted February 11, 2021 Just now, cayars said: Hi, are you referring to the CONVERT feature or did you mean when Emby transcodes on the fly? Hi, I mean CONVERT. It takes my .mkv h.264 with internal subtitles and makes a .mkv hevc with .vtt's and no internal subtitles. Ideally it should result in a .mkv hevc with internal subtitles I guess but I'm not sure what's possible or not.
Carlo 4561 Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 @Luke Is this something you can answer? Is it so that the future use of this conversion will be friendlier to HLS protocol?
Luke 42085 Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 Vtt is more universally supported on streaming devices. I'm surprised Kodi doesn't support it.
pwhodges 2014 Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 Simple VTT subs look very like SRT; but it has additional capabilities, considerably less than SSA/ASS though. Paul
Holtz 0 Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Couldn't you in the future leave an option to exit the subtitle format? It would be great if you could choose the final subtitle format instead of always leaving it as VTT.
