clarkss12 304 Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 I have a new Android device, that automatically switches the frame rate to match the video. Problem is, Emby shows frame rate of 29.97 for the super bowl. My device automatically switches to 30 frames per second, therefore everything is jerky, unwatchable. I have to disable the automatic frame rate switcher, so the box plays the football game at 60 frames per second, then the game plays perfectly. So where does Emby get that information that my over the air broadcast of the super bowl is being broadcast in 29.97 fps. This problem never popped up before, because I never had any Android boxes that switched the frame rates automatically for live TV.
ebr 16178 Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Are you saying the device itself is doing the switching or that you turned on our option to do the switching?

Both, but after doing a lot of investigating, there is probably nothing you can do. This new device switches EVERYTHING, including live TV streams that have a framerate of 29.97fps. The Nvidia Shield does not switch the live streams. The issue is that the 1080i streams are broadcast at 29.97fps, the 720p streams are broadcast at 59.94fps. My new device "sees" the 29.97fps and switches to 30fps.... But, those are also interlaced streams, folks on the SiliconDust forum say it is the interlaced video that is causing the issue of jerrky playback and NOT the 29.97 fps............ The problem was when I was watching the super bowl, it was broadcast on a 1080i stream, with the 29.97fps. When I disabled the automatic framerate switching, the same 1080i station played at 60fps, which was perfect. The only thing that you could do is to NOT switch the framerate for LIVE TV streams, that are broadcast in 1080i........... Don't know if any of this makes sense. Only popped up because of my new box that supports automatic framerate switching AND the Super Bowl being played on a channel that uses a 1080i stream. Edited February 8, 2021 by clarkss12
