srolomc 2 Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 I am currently having an issue with Auto Refresh Rate with Live TV. Here are my system/software details: TV: Sony Bravia A8H Media Player: Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 Emby App Version: 1.8.71g (beta) Emby Server Version: 4.5.4.0 (Linux) In the app, I have Auto Refresh rate set to On. When I play live TV and enable stats for nerds, the original playback rate for the content being viewed shows ~30hz, but the display refresh rate shows ~60hz. I also notice stuttering when watching. In addition I have tried various combinations of enabling/disabling Direct Playback options as well as enabling Resolution switching. I would also note that refresh rate switching does seem to work fine when playing movies from the server. I have attached my server log as well as a few of the ffmpeg transcode logs. Thanks for the help! emby_server.log ffmpeg-transcode-445c53dc-5f73-47c8-be89-237dc337e51c_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-786a9b2b-7221-40ac-a830-9ba806de4c60_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-f01b8443-86d4-491b-9533-3370bb1c8db7_1.txt
ebr 16184 Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Hi. That is by design. The app will prefer the doubled rate if your TV supports it. For Live TV (in the states anyway) having the display at 60 (or 59.x) would be the proper behavior.
srolomc 2 Posted February 6, 2021 Author Posted February 6, 2021 Thanks for the response! Out of curiosity, why is choosing the doubled rate the correct behavior? Also, I do notice stuttering in the video every couple of seconds when watching live TV (this does not happen when watching movies in Emby or videos in other apps), so I was just trying to figure out why that is happening.
Solution ebr 16184 Posted February 6, 2021 Solution Posted February 6, 2021 A refresh rate at exactly twice the frame rate does not present a problem for displaying those frames as it just shows the same frame on two refresh cycles. 59.x/60 is the default refresh rate for pretty much all US TVs (except ones that may do 120 for smoother processing).
