Lighthammer 91 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 This is a sanity check --- I looked on Github's documentation and it doesn't look like there's much on this unless I'm missing the section and I don't see any posts directly asking this.Am I right to assume Media Browser does not currently support multiple discs of an album for a music when nested?Example: Music Folder -> Album Folder ----> Disc 1 Folder ----> Disc 2 Folder And that the best practice currently would be to do Music Folder -> Album Folder (Disc 1) -> Album Folder (Disc 2) ? Also, while I'm on this topic, I guess I may as well toss this out in case its not already on the fire. It seems that one of the most common naming conventions I've encountered is this: Music Folder -> Artist ----> Studio Albums ------> Album #1 --------> Disc 1 --------> Disc 2 ----> Compilations ------> Album #2 --------> Disc 1 --------> Disc 2 ----> Singles ------> Album #3 --------> Disc 1 --------> Disc 2 ----> Music Videos ------> Album #4 --------> Disc 1 --------> Disc 2 ----> Posthumous Albums ------> Album #5 --------> Disc 1 --------> Disc 2 I personally stick to Studio albums so this is a non-issue for me, but this seems VERY common. EPs, LPs, Vinyls and Sound Tracks are other categories that come up too.
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 That is not a common album naming convention in my experience but it's a big world I suppose. I recommend this for music: Artist -->Album If it's 1 disc, 2, discs, or 45 discs, that's it. Embed the disc number in the ID3 tags. It will work just fine with no trouble at all.
FrostByte 5392 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 I use the same convention DS does. One folder for a multi part album using the disc # id3 tag to identify which disc a song belongs to. This is most in line I think with how mzb lists multi disc albums as one album with one mbz id and MB3 does a lot better for me at finding things correctly without the Disc 1, 2, etc in the album name or folder name in my experience. However, I'm sure there are other ways that may work also
ginjaninja 605 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 I use the ds method too..mb3 seems to like it. Originally had disc subfolders but back then mb3 didnt support that..not sure now.
Lighthammer 91 Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 The method I quoted above is how I see a large number of discographies transported. I know I see MusicBrainz and Wikipedia use the same categorization. I'm not enough of an authority on the topic to suggest it IS in fact a working convention, but it does seem very popular. That being said, I switched over to the beta releases and since I have, I noticed it picks up on affixing Disc 1 and Disc 2 to folders. I should actually try if it likes embeded Disc 1 and Disc 2 folders
Lighthammer 91 Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 I also just confirmed that EITHER the recent server update or the beta update (unsure which, I didn't see it specifically in the changelog) allows for nested disc folders. IE Music Folder -> Album Folder ----> Disc 1 Folder ----> Disc 2 FolderHowever, it DOES segregate them into two different Albums in the Media Browser interface. At least the format is now supported compared to not being supported before the weekend. 1
