Scan Media Library Task Hanging

Last couple days the Scan Media Library was stuck at around 60% and not moving so it never added any of my new files in.

I rebooted the server but it still seems to keep getting stuck around the same spot.

I've attached a log after a reboot.  I see a bunch of exceptions and what not but am not sure if it is related.

Any help debugging would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Now it appears that both refresh people and scan media library are getting stuck....

The Scan task actually finished after my last post at some point.  I know it had been stuck for over 24 hours but seemed like it made it through eventually and then started working again for a little bit only to start failing again yesterday and it's been stuck for over 24 hours again.

Is there some corrupt DB or cache somewhere causing this issue?

I went back through the log to find the last time it successfully ran (taking 43 seconds)  and copied the log starting from that task kicking off through the next one that hung and then the following one that didn't start since it was already running.  Debug logging was not enabled but I am hoping this might be enough information to shed light on the issue.  All of the times it tries to start after this I just see in the log "App: Task already queued: RefreshMediaLibraryTask"

it's a partial log so i it's not very useful. just do a refresh of the page because occasionally the live progress reporting might get stuck even though the task has actually completed.

I posted the full log with debug enabled in the first post and no one responded so I figured if I just included the relevant portion it would be more useful and maybe get a response.

In the MBlog.txt I started copying the log from when the most recent successful scan media library task started.  You can see it run and complete in 43 seconds.  Then you can see the next time it kicks off an hour later.  This never finishes and an hour later you can see the task kick off again and MediaBrowser says it is queuing the task.  And then finally one more hour later it tries to start again and you can see it say that the task is already queued.  This continues for the next 24 hours over and over again until I just restarted it right now.

It's not a refresh issue.  No new media is being added to my library when it gets stuck.  I have closed the browser, reopened, etc, and it stays stuck at those levels.  Also the log seems to echo this.

I just rebooted again and after coming back both tasks ran fine.  But as this keeps happening I think there is something else going on.

I've uploaded a zip of all of the logs over the last several days if this can shed any more light?

Happened again today.  Stuck at 18.5% this time.

Worked fine since the reboot and then for some reason the task that starts at 14:47 never finishes.  I've attached the two logs that were generated since the reboot yesterday and when it started the new log at the beginning of today.

I will also turn on the debug logging and just leave it on from now on so I can get a full debug output when it happens.

ok, post more as it happens so i can look for patters. only, try to avoid zipping them so that i can read them in the browser, and limit it to logs that have the issue so that i don't have to go digging around. Thanks.

I've been zipping them because you mentioned the partial log in the above post where I isolated the issue was "not very useful"; and by the time it happens the individual logs are always over 1MB which is the size limit that I am able to post on here.

Is there a different method of posting larger logs that is preferred?

if it forces you to zip them then that's fine

I think i may have an idea of what has been causing this now - poor internet connectivity.  Over last couple of days I have noticed in general I am having connection issues and I have Comcast coming out tomorrow to swap out my cable modem which I believe to be the problem.

After a reboot now I noticed that two other tasks got stuck which require the internet....

I saw a bunch of connection errors in the log as I was looking through for the scan error issue and this seems similar to errors I have been seeing with all sorts of other applications and connectivity today.  The scan media library also seems somewhat reliant on internet connectivity as well I am guessing and I think the dropouts in connectivity just aren't being handled well and are causing this.

Once I get my internet connectivity fixed I'll let you know if this is still happening.

So it appears I am dealing with some upper level peering issue within Comcast's network that they were unaware of and are now working to fix.  Tried four different cable modems lol.   Going to be a few more days before my connectivity is fully resolved now sounds like.

Internet was repaired yesterday and it appears this problem has gone away.

Kind of weird that slow internet broke the Scan Media task but this appears to be the case.

Also, MBC took almost a minute to startup during this timeframe I noticed as well.  So it also seems to have a hard time handling a slow internet connection.

Is this expected behavior?
