Books libraries not displaying on Android TV devices

Hi,

I do my reading on my kindle e-ink devices, but I really like this feature to be able to browse through my tiles on any tv in the house, is like having a bookshelf for ebooks, where I can see what I have read so far, encourage the kids to read more, since now they each have a library section that as a family we can look at and talk about those titles. I just switched to Emby after using Plex for so many years, just for this one feature and it wasn't cheap, it cost me over $100 USD for Emby Premiere. I finished adding my books and adding each cover, only to discovered that it doesn't show on my Chromecast with Google TV or my Nvidia Shield TV devices, but every other Movie and TV library section that has been added does. I can see the books section on my Pixel 3 phone and the browser on my computer, so I know that section exists and is working properly.

Is there a setting within the Emby app for this to be turn on all devices, and if not can this be added in the settings as an option?

Thanks

Alex

Thanks for the reply ebr,

Based on your comment from the other post "There is no way to view books in this app so that library is not shown." I guess that answers the question into why the book libraries don't display on the Android TV devices. :(

Is there a remote possibility of adding a feature like a check box in the settings, where the user can turn this on to display their book libraries on those Android TV apps anyway? I guess that pragmatically this is probably just a boolean value that can be easily change. The hard work is probably adding the interaction with the UI.

Thanks again

Possibly but the problem with things like that is that people will turn it on expecting to be able to read their books then come here and ask why they can't.  I'm afraid it will cause a lot more confusion and frustration than functionality.

As much as I want this feature, I have to agree with your argument, because I can see people that wont read the text explaining that this is for displaying only.

What if enough people ask for this feature of displaying their books without the ability to read them on their TV screen. Can there be a .json file that we could change a value to true and make this work? The reason I say this is because this step of a user going out of their way to change a config file, is something that most people won't do, and only those of us that really research this feature and truly understand its limitation, will be the ones that to follow through.

I think this could be a win win, because the UI doesn't have to change, and programatically this will be just isolating this boolean value, to be imported from a .json file, so there is no need to read through many lines of code to make this change, or risking changing the value to something else. Or maybe if is so much work without the .json file, just tell us where to change.

Thanks again I hope something like this can be done.

You can create a feature request in the FR forum section and we'll see how many folks jump on.

Thanks.

Before I do that I just noticed that the ebooks library are displaying on my tv via xbox! Can one read books on the xbox? if the answer is no and you guys haven't get to many complains about that, maybe is just fine to make it available in all the devices. If you guys get bombarded with issues you can then put it back to what it is right now.

This will be kind of like doing an A B testing of a UX feature :)

ebr, The ebooks are displaying on the XBOX One right now via Emby and everything looks great!!

I'm sure the Chromecast with Google TV box can do everything the Xbox can do when it comes to displaying the ebooks, so far all you can do with ebooks in Emby is download them, which is a feature I would never use and is fine with me because I just want to display the book covers.

I think that people have an e-ink device or other handheld devices to read their books, and wouldn't be planning to read in front of their TVs, so this is more of a way to compensate for the nostalgia of not having a physical bookshelf in the house anymore.

Does the Xbox have features that the android boxes don’t have when it comes to what you can do with the ebooks?

We just haven't done the work in this app yet to display them since their usage would be so limited.

ebr but is equality limited on the XBOX One and on phones and you guys did it, this is the reason I paid for the Emby Premiere and who knows how this feature in all the devices would attract more people like me to pay.

If is already displaying in my Android phone, I don't think is going to be a lot of work to get it to display on the Android Google TV.

Can you guys look into this?

Thanks
