Genre Cleaner Does Not Auto Clean

Restarted the server to get fresh logs, I have Lidarr tagging and auto-arranging my music which creates the numbered genres. I have the Genre Cleaner plugin set to remove those and to map some fringe genres to others. This does not happen if I run the regular library scan, but if I go to Genre cleaner, then edit, then save, then run the scan from there, it does. To my knowledge it's only running the regular library scan, but it's not hooking in during the scheduled task. Log reflects the actions I just mention.

Hi, it does hook into the normal library scan. Simply run a scan after editing the embedded information within the files. As long as the date modified timestamp of the files is changing after the edits, then emby server will see that the file has changed and reprocess it again.

Just to provide a bit of support I just went and checked and found that two of my mapped genera were not being correctly mapped to the genera I had chosen. I then ran a normal library scan and the two genera were still not mapped. I then went to Genre Cleaner and first checked to see if the mapping was correct and it was. Then I ran library scan from Genre Cleaner and found the genera correctly mapped.

From this I believe that Genre Cleaner is not quite correctly mapping all genera.

I know it must be mapping some of the genera correctly as I just recently added a couple of dozen movies and some of them, using other genera tags, did map correctly.

I have a bunch of mappings but two that pertain to recent adds are:
Adventure mapped to Action
Romance mapped to Drama

The movies I have added with the Adventure tag were correctly mapped to Action.

The movies I have added with the Romance tag did not get mapped to Drama.

Even some movies that had both tags had the Adventure mapped to Action and the Romance not mapped to Drama.

After I manually ran update library from inside Genre Cleaner all mappings were correct.

This is not serious for me as I very rarely actually use the genera tag for anything but I think it needs to be fixed.

Note: In answer to @Luke the normal library scan ran several times with the impacted files in the library and it was even run a few times manually and the genera did NOT get remapped. However as soon as I ran the scan from inside Genre Cleaner all mappings became correct.

^This. I do not map anything but music but it 100% does not take effect unless run from within genre cleaner. I've been noticing this for a while but only now remembered when I was actually in a position to get logs and post.

When you run it from genre cleaner, all it actually does is kick off the library scan.

OK that album I put the logs up for in post 1 has been on the server for two days. Scan media runs every night at midnight. I also ran it before running from genre cleaner in the log above, all of which had no effect. I went in edit, clicked save (maybe this is the catalyst?), then ran from genre cleaner screen. That resolved.

There's two things that will cause the genres to be re-processed again:

  • Changing genre cleaner settings
  • The date modified timestamp of the media file changing

I guarantee there is something different between launching a library scan in any of the "normal" ways and launching it by clicking scan library from Genre Cleaner. I do not know what the difference could be but there must be a difference. It could even be something else that gets launched at the same time for normal scans that screw up some of the mapped genera.

One of the movies that did not correctly map its genre was in my library for at least two weeks and in that time my library was scanned many many times.

I have my library set to scan at about 03:00 every day and it scans whenever it detects changes and it scans whenever I launch a scan manually. When I launched from inside Genre Cleaner I changed nothing first. I just looked at the settings and then launched the scan.

This is not going to be easy to find or fix and, for me, it is not very important, but please @Lukedo not dismiss this as "user error" or "user misunderstanding" or "user hallucinations." It is real and it probably will not go away.

Edit to add: I decided to check some other things and I found the this only appears to happen on my primary server. My other two have no problems. One of them is on my Shield.

This is even more perplexing as all three are set to store all metadata and with the movie files so they are, as far as I know, reading the various files from exactly the same place.

Actually, on further thought, all servers "could" have the problem as it could have been fixed when I ran a scan from my primary thereby updating all metadata files.

When you guys manually start a scan, are you doing it from the task manager of from the menu option of a single library?

I'm doing from Server Dashboard > Scheduled Tasks > Scan Media Library - no change.

From Server Dashboard > Plugins > Genre Cleaner > Start Library Scan - success.

As I noted before, I usually go in to the EDIT menu then SAVE for music because of all the random numbered genres and just make sure there isn't a new one that pops up in there.

Usually, in fact almost always, I just scan a single library from the three dot menu on the selected library from the home screen. I am usually only trying to refresh or fix something in just one library.
