Yet another 'duplicate artist' issue

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have to apologize in advance, because I know there already are a couple of topics like this on the forums. I've read through everyone I cloud find, but I couldn't solve my problem.

I want to transition from plex to emby for various reasons. Most importantly, audio book support seems to be better with Emby. Unfortunately I am immediately facing problems I can't seem to solve myself. All of my audio books are correctly tagged. I use mp3tag to achieve that. By "tagged correctly", I mean like so:

image.thumb.png.4cb3b096df526642a19f9cae853e562e.png

Please note that Album-Interpret (album artist) is not tagged. I never do that unless I have to (that being if the artist of a title differs from the one of the album). Now I have multiple audio books from this particular artist. All are tagged in the same way. The Interpret (artist) is exactly the same in all books. However after I create a new audio book library in Emby and add the audio books, this is the result (I use the predefined settings when creating the library. I just add the path, library name and language settings):

image.thumb.png.b75c99e52895a055e1b8d06100be56ce.png

I've tried to delete and rebuild the library various times, with the same result. I also tried using Picard from MusicBrainz to completely delete all the tags and retag it (with Picard, that means using the feature to add all the MusicBrainz IDs and such) - also same result.
Not trying to compare Emby to Plex, but Plex has no problem with the very same audio books.

In addition to that, I'd like emby to not pull any metadata from anywhere of the internet, but just use the information in the embedded tags. How is that possible? I tried setting up my library like this:
image.thumb.png.6ef6667da69f0aede86b70a47df66d99.png

But it still seems to pull information from the internet. At least I see MusicBrainz IDs begin added to albums. Well to be clear, I actually have no problem with Emby pulling additional information. As long as my audio books get displayed properly (the more information the better I guess). I tried to stop it from pulling information because I thought maybe that's where the issue lies.

If anyone would know hot to solve this. I'd appreciate.

Thanks.

Hello Luke,

thanks for the reply. Would you suggest waiting for the next release before adding all my media, or will the fix also work for already added albums?

Thanks.

It will do a complete rescan. I wouldn't necessarily wait though as you won't be able to play music in Emby.

Thank you @Luke.

I have another problem I should probably open a new issue for. I can do that if you want, but in the meantime:

I'm having trouble fetching proper metadata about my artists.

For some artists it works fine:

The MusicBrainz Link at the bottom takes me to their artist page.

For other artists, it partially works:

The artist is correct. The MusicBrainz Link at the bottom takes me to his page. However, the summary is English, but should be German (I set German as the default language). If you visit the link you'll see that there is a German summary for that artist.

Then there are many artists which don't work at all:
image.png.8ad599cdf26c8b33433affa6d6024373.pngI would of course be okay with adding the missing information manually if Emby just couldn't find it, but for this (and many other) artist it actually did find the information. I can see a MusicBrainz Link at the bottom which takes me to the proper page. It just didn't pull any information. I also tried clicking the three dots and choosing "Identify", manually selecting the actor, and then doing "Refresh all metadata" with the same result. Doesn't seem to pull anything.

My library is setup like this:

Thanks in advance.

The summaries come from Audiodb so you'll need to check what they have. They might not even have a German translation for that particular artist.

Thanks. You are correct about that. Is there a way to make emby pull metadata from musicbrainz? I tried deactivating TheAudioDb in the library settings and rescanning all the meta data but that didn't change anything.

Hi, unfortunately no because musicbrainz doesn't actually have that information. If you look at their website, they're just pulling it from wikipedia.

I do have the same problem with artists named ' [VA] '  and ' [VC]  '  (with square brackets).

I added an album and the new album-artist "[VA]" is created correctly, but somehow a (wrong) musicbrainz-link was added. (all metadata services deselected!)

After adding another album with an album-artist "[VA]" a NEW artist was created with another musicbrainz-link.

First I thought, this might be a problem because of the square brackets, but there is somehow a bug within Emby.

A possibility to join or group artists with the same name is absoluty neccecary, I have hundrets of wrong/double associated albums.

After analysing my problem, it is become more and more weired.

Sometimes only the problem with duplicated Artists appears (see post above).

But sometimes it is even more complicated:

Case 1:
In your database "library.db", table "MediaItems", Column "AlbumArtists", is the following content: "[VC]|Radion sinfoniaorkesteri|Lisa Batiashvili|Sakari Oramo"
(attached file Sibelius-Database.jpg)
At the front end "[VC]" does not appear, but "Jean Sibelius"
(attached file Sibelius Output.jpg)

The connection is wrong - where does "Jean Sibelius" come from?

Case 2:
In your database "library.db", table "MediaItems", Column "AlbumArtists", is the following content: "[VC]|Jakub Józef Orliński|Il Pomo d'Oro|Maxim Emelyanychev"
(attached file Facce-Database.jpg)
At the front end "[VC]" does not appear at all. Only the three other artists.
(attached file Facce-Output.jpg)

Neither "Update metadata"  nor "recan Library" fixes the bug.

There must be something wrong with creating, synchronize and/or query your database with the two tables "MediaItems" & "ItemLinks".
The database fields are filled correctly with the content of the MP3-/Flac-files.

Hope you solve this big problem, because I don't see a solution/manual workaround and i have lots of confusion.

Best, Stefan
