What are the best options for UK Freesat users?

I have a twin tuner card in my pc, but this forces me to use Nextpvr.

I've banged my head against the wall trying to get it working correctly, and I cannot get it to work.

I live in n area with very poor internet options. I have to use a 4g unlimited sim card and whilst it's reasonably fast, it does drop out a couple of times a day.

So, i use the tuner card for when the iptv service drops out.

So what would be my best option to get away from a third party bridge to having something that "just works" with emby

Do you just want the UK Freesat channels ?  if yes, then are you in a UK Freeview area ?  if yes again - the a HD-HomeRun Connect is your best bet as it natively works with Emby - all schedules etc are built in and it 'just works' out the box.  Unfortunately, I don't believe you can get a HD-HomeRun in the UK that supports DVB-S/2 (Freesat).

so you can't get your tuners to work in nextpvr as a standalone program?

there is a way to generate a m3u from a working nextpvr install that you can then add to emby but its a bit of work to make the m3u, a bit more work to config the m3u and guide data in emby and not really within the licence of nextpvr. but it is do-able. but clearly you need it to work in next pvr first.

at some point you should be able to do this in emby, this feature is in current development, but no ETA

They did work in nextpvr until i stupidly updated that to V5.

THEN realised that this took emby out of the equation, I've tried to recreate the original setup. But no matter what I've tried that server pc will not play any of the channels. It plays a millisecond or two with the image and sound flashing in and out. Everything else works, eg, setting up

I've tried numerous codecs, and restoring the pc, but nothing works. if I disable the video codec the sound plays perfectly. Those same files on the same pc play perfectly in both emby and the nextpvr web app. It's definitely a codec issue. I've spent two 12 hour days at the pc trying to fix the issue.

Anyway, it's cobbled together enough to get a working emby through the Rokus. As everything else works, like setting up the tuners and channels.

They don't appear to be interested in helping with the logs i attached as they're not supporting or developing nextpvr v4.

So that brings me back to exploring other options. (short of wiping the pc and starting again)

I don't have a Freeview aerial, although i could sort that out when my home office is moved to another room in the house in another 9 month. (no point having the aerial leads run now and then moving them later)

Freesat is pretty common in the UK, so to hear that support is in development is music to my ears.

it sounds like you were planning on using Npvr as the recording engine with the Npvr plugin?

that being the case you could try installing mediaportal and using the mediaportal plugin. its essentially the same as npvr. i have used it in the past with dvbs tuners.

its just you could be waiting a little while for the emby function to be developed

There might be hope for v5, if I read this correctly -

Hopefully that links to the last post - EDIT - it doesn't but see the last post anyway.

I thought nextpvr v5 developers didn't want it integrated into emby because of some payment issue.

Media Portal sounds like it's worth looking at.

Trouble is with elderly relatives shielding with me due to covid, i don't have the time to devote to this issue!

Hopefully I'll get it sorted one way or another.

yeah i don't understand how the security change overcomes the fact that npvr don't want their product to be associated with a commercial product - emby - but we shall see.

mediaportal should be relatively easy for you to setup, the guy that developed the plugin is very active here and helpful
