bnwbass 3 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Hello all, Just set up Live TV on MB3 HTPC and things seem to work well. On the Roku side I have the Roku3 player and added the Media browser and media center channels. What needs to be done to get an EPG within these channels? is there a side load app for roku? I added "what on" channel to roku but that's not very useful since it's a separate channel that you need open to see listings. Also, is there a Next PVR channel for Roku? thx bw
im85288 1493 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Hi, I can speak for Media Centre and say it is currently not possible or indeed planned. When I looked at the API for Roku achieving an EPG in a decent layout did not seem possible. It may be that the official media browser channel does have plans for this though. If so I am sure Luke will mention that here.
Chuggy 3 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) It seems that HDHR Fling is pretty much under the radar. I use it for live tv in the bedroom for my wife, while mb3 plays any recorded or downloaded content. It had a full epg and works pretty flawlessly. You do need a petty decent computer for transcoding and a hd homerun, but if you have those 2 things you're set. http://hdhrfling.com/ Edited August 4, 2014 by Chuggy
farside847 39 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I would love to see the live tv channels listed in a grid view so you can see what is on multiple channels at a glance. Having to select each channel to see what is on is less awesome. 1
Spaceboy 2573 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Don't think this is going to happen. All dependent on roku technology. Do you see any other apps supporting this kind of view?
farside847 39 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Actually, hdhrfling does it quite nicely: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0cC_XWbXG0I
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Some companies get access to special API features that aren't documented in the actual Roku Developer documentation. 1
farside847 39 Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 I am sure your absolutly right. But this app in particular seems to be built by a one man show that likely does not have any special access. Check him out (super nice guy too) http://hdhrfling.com Thanks!
farside847 39 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Here is another guy who made a pretty awesome looking tv grid view that is out there for free. I asked him if he might be interested in developing for media browser http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=46890&p=452557#p452557 2

I'm looking for at adding live TV to my setup and I just dumped WMC for MB3.
Jon 34 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Agree...I tried HDHR Fling and while I couldn't get very good results with it, the EPG was nice. I was a little disappointed to see that Live TV with MB3 client had no EPG as well as Live TV is working in it for me.
farside847 39 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I would love to see a grid like view for live tv on the roku app. There have been a few other apps built with this type of display (hdhrfling, TV guide). This would make it super simple to find the show you are looking for without the need to go into each channel. Thanks! 4
farside847 39 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I went and filed a feature request for this http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/10522-roku-live-tv-guide-in-grid-view/ Feel free to add to it/vote for it.

MrWebsmith 598 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 def agree.. liked the op and +1 from me (when dev resources are available) 2
farside847 39 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Combining these threads took it out of the feature request area. Was this intentional? Sorry if I put this in the wrong place?
Luke 42077 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 This would be a perfect project for a new contributor. Brightscript is very easy to learn. We love it when new people submit pull requests.
mediacowboy 438 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Figuratively speaking what would it take to start programming for the roku?
Jon 34 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Same here. A real guide on the Roku would be awesome. Live TV works great on it.
Luke 42077 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 you can post wherever you like, not to worry. it doesn't matter to be if it's in FR or the roku area. but if there are two of the same it's good to combine them.
farside847 39 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Awesome, thanks As I am a bit challenged when it comes to time and coding ability, I am attempting to recruit others who have built similar apps to donate their source code in the hopes that it might enable another dev to recreate similar functionality. I will let you know if I am successful. I must limit myself to contributing in a financial way (paid supporter).
Luke 42077 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 If that is what you are doing then you are doing more than enough Everyone has a job to do. Donations are appreciated, although there's nothing more valuable than bringing new developers to the team. there will be a new blog post tonight that will probably attract some people. although it will be android-focused, it's the kind of thing that will attract all kinds.
