Is there a way to correct the sort order of actors (cast & crew) so that main actors appear before supporting cast?

An example below:

Save to nfo and then re-order them inside the nfo and refresh...?

That would work, but I was hoping/expecting to be able do it thru Emby, by itself.

Similar to the sort arrows in Library mgmt.

EDIT:

Being able to sort cast within Emby's edit metadata would be simpler,, faster, more efficient, imho.

So this might be considered a feature request.

On the tvdb website, actors are sorted by importance, but I wouldn't have a clue about the api.

This is something that we should add, but no we currently do not have it.

Edit metadata of a show, under People.

I believe sort arrows would be more useful there than the present recycle bin.

Thanks Luke and all.

Or setup like playlists where you can drag an item and reorder it.

Even if added would provider data end up reordering your modifications as it has sort order or would it just be ignored after initial import?

  Reveal hidden contents

Yes it would if you refresh metadata.

Isn't it the reason for this option in editmetadata ?

Yes exactly. You're just giving up a whole lot by locking the whole thing.

I am at wits end trying to fix that specific show.

all provider (imdb, tmdb and tvdb) website show correct actor sort order, but for some reason (api?), I still get grandma Florrick's pic  first in Emby.

Refreshing metadata doesnT fix it. Tried Identify with all data source, no difference. Tried removing serie folder from main tv show folder (and deleting tvshow.nfo), same thing.

Tried putting tvdb id# in serie folder name.... no joy.

Calling all fellow OCD on that one 🤯

What show is it?

The Good Wife.

I tried EBR's suggestion to resort actor order in the show's nfo and it did work, so while not the most elegant way to fix it, it now does show main actor before supporting cast.

Look before (op) compared to now:

I know this is an old post but I've seen it mentioned a few times so I thought I would give a better solution.  I can't imagine why in the world Emby would pull movie data from a TV site before the two movie sites it uses, but that aside, the easy fix is to create an account on tvdb and then edit the cast order there.  Then, not only do you fix it for yourself, but for everyone that comes after you.

Hi, what do you mean? Default order for movies is MovieDb first.

You can also lend your support here:

And/or use 3rd party tool:

My Emby server auto updates to the latest release version and for the movie (https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/24740-the-entity) it pulled the cast order from tvdb instead of moviedb or imdb which both had it correct.  I refreshed metadata a few times trying to fix a different issue but it wasn't until I edited the order on tvdb that it corrected the cast order

I would check your metadata fetcher order for your movie library.

Now this is interesting.  The first image is from the server running on my RPi.  The default setting is apparently to use the TVdb on that version as I've done next to nothing in configuration on it.  The second image is from my Windows server.  It is set to not even use TVdb but it does for cast, at a minimum.

I would try using the arrows to put tvdb last. Then going forward after that it will be prioritized lower.
