kevinofoz 0 Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 I am trying to playback the file that can be found here:https://www.demolandia.net/downloads.html?id=86575423 It is short, but quite high resolution. On Android app and Roku, it plays back great. No problems at all. On Web UI and Chromecast, it stalls every 4-6 seconds and them sometimes just stalls. It also takes maybe 20 seconds or so to start on the web client. I am running Emby 4.5.4.0 on a Synology DS220+ with the latest DSM 6.2 software. At first, I thought it might have been RAM, so I upgraded from 2GB to 6GB but have the same issues. As best as I can tell from the logs, hardware transcoding is enabled. Although the Celeron J chip is not the most powerful. Is there anything else I can try or should look at? Android and Roku must be doing some optimization that WebUI/Chromecast are not. DLNA access instead of streaming? Even at full quality (4K @ 120 MBps), the Android client shows no problems. This is also over a fast wi-fi in a local network. I have tried playback on both my Mac and Windows box on a variety of both Chrome and Edge. If I converted the video to 720p, it did seem to work fine. Interestingly, Safari looked good. I did see a similar issue with Plex as well, although I didn't go too deeply into it.
speechles 2055 Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 Is it likely transcoding on both the WebUI and the ChromeCast. The material is 60 frames per second. That would mean it would need to encode at 60FPS with HEVC at 4K which would be a heavy task for anything Synology runs.
ebr 16199 Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 Hi. Yes, we'd need to see the ffmpeg log to confirm but, more than likely, your server simply cannot transcode this item fast enough for smooth playback. Try lowering the quality setting in the web app.
moviepalace4K 29 Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 What version of Chromecast do you use? For 4K content you need the Chromecast Ultra to play. V2 plays max 720p smoothly and V3 plays max 1080p smoothly.
RanmaCanada 500 Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 I would strongly recommend you replace your old chromecast with the new Chromecast with Google TV.
Luke 42086 Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 Hi there, can we please look at an example? Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue: Thanks !
