But I dont understand your suggestions or how this could work.

For your first suggestion of adding the two other mount points to the library, I remember trying this a year or two ago when I started using Emby.  It turned out that its not supported to have two libraries that contain the same mount points.

No not two different libraries but one library with multiple mount points like this:

In your case you would have all three listed

OR

Just have the one mount point of for example e:\Media\Recordings (DVR or what ever you want to call it).  You then remove the optional Movie an TV Shows

Thinking about this again, and following cayars last post, do you recommend I remove the existing Movies, TV Shows and Recordings libraries and create a new one.  I see now there's a Mixed Content option for media type.

Is this the recommended configuration for Emby instead of separate libraries for TV Shows and Movies?

So then would I leave the root folder (e.g. DVR in cayars example) empty and move my content to either the TV Shows or Movies subfolders accordingly?
Am I right in thinking it will then automatically put new recordings in the correct subfolder and I would have just one library folder?
Will I be able to browse TV Shows and  Movies separately in Emby Theatre or would they all be mixed together in the same view?

thanks

No don't create a new library.

If you like a could do a remote TeamViewer session with you and get you squared away in 5 minutes or so and then we'll make sure you get your extra meta-data for these recordings.
If you like to do this send me a PM and we can arrange a time or likely can just help you out now.

Thank you for the offer of a remote session, its very appreciated.

Its getting a little late here in the UK now so let me have a go myself tomorrow and I'll report back.

thanks again

Absolutely give it a shot yourself.  If you can't get it send me a PM tomorrow and we can try and hook up then for a remote session.

Please let us know how you get on. Thanks !

I've tried a few different ways of setting up the libraries but its not working as I would like.

If you have time later today (maybe in a couple of hours) could we go through it please?  I'll send you a PM to connect up.

thanks

Sure thing.  Download and install Teamviewer from www.teamviewer.com.  Send me via PM the ID and one-time use password it shows on launch.
Be at your computer and I'll connect as quickly as possible or send you a PM back if I'll be delayed (ie helping someone else).
I'll open a chat session on connection.

Did a remote session this evening with warrencalvert and got him squared away.

Just a slight mismatch of directories and library use, but all is good now.

Thank you cayars for taking the time to run through this with me.

Its straight forward once you see how its done but I was going round in circles and couldnt get it working as I wanted it to.
The documentation wasnt particularly clear either so the quick walk through really helped.

Thanks again, its refreshing to see someone so helpful and has proved again that Emby is the best media software around - and I've used all of the leading competitors at one time or other.

Yes, I had that feeling, which is why I preferred to run through it with you and get you on track with a remote session.
Documentation is a double edge sword.  You want to document it enough so people understand the feature set but not write a book that no one will read!

The documentation works well for most people but you've stepped a bit outside the box in your use.  Emby can handle it, just not the "documentor" (me). LOL

I will take your feed back and reread the KB articles and see if I can improve anything.  I do this a lot after working with people and getting feedback so thank you.

Thanks for the compliments of our support.

PS Wait till you see our new Live TV and what it can do.  Don't mean to tease you, but if you like Emby now you'll love us later for Live TV/DVR. :)
Our devs have out done themselves on this. It's in private testing with a bit more dev needed but is looking really good and has a lot of new features and ways of doing things.
