warrencalvert 16 Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 Hi I have Emby server 4.5.4.0 on Windows 10 and have a problem with metadata downloads for new movies (these are recorded from live TV using Emby). Some metadata is downloaded automatically - cover art, year, summary are all downloaded. However IMDB rating, parental rating, cast and crew are not. If I select the movie and refresh metadata in the menu option for that movie it then downloads all the missing metadata. In the Library settings I have Movie metadata downloaders 'TheMovieDB' and 'The Open Movie database' both selected. I dont see any settings to enable the automatic download of all metadata. Why does it only download partial data automatically but all of it if I force a refresh? How can I get it to automatically download all metadata? thanks, Warren.
Carlo 4561 Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 Hi, can you upload screen shots showing how you have this library configured? Something doesn't appear to be set correctly for this to happen.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 Is there metadata initially created during the recording that comes from guide vs online provider? @cayars Sound like existing metadata issue though.
Carlo 4561 Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 Yea for recordings we'll grab some of the information from the Guide. Then I believe it will use the settings of the Recording Library for the additional meta-data.
Luke 42078 Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 Quote I dont see any settings to enable the automatic download of all metadata. Because it already is. Just add new videos to your library and run a library scan.
Luke 42078 Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 Quote Why does it only download partial data automatically but all of it if I force a refresh? How can I get it to automatically download all metadata? Please go over an example in detail: Thanks.
warrencalvert 16 Posted January 17, 2021 Author Posted January 17, 2021 Hi Yes, I think you're right, its probably getting basic metadata from the guide but to get full metadata I have to manually download it. Please see screenshots below. The first is for a movie that was recorded from TV recently. It has only partial metadata. The 2nd screenshot is after I click More/ Refresh Metadata How can I get it to automatically download full metadata? thanks, warren.
Carlo 4561 Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 It should do this automatically on it's own if you're patient.
warrencalvert 16 Posted January 18, 2021 Author Posted January 18, 2021 Thanks, it good to know this should happen automatically and I havent just missed a setting somewhere. So how do I fix it since its not downloading automatically?
Carlo 4561 Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 I believe it should work automatically. You could also try turning on Real Time Monitoring in the Recording Library as well setting up the meta-data providers there as well. Let us know if this helps.
warrencalvert 16 Posted January 18, 2021 Author Posted January 18, 2021 Hi Real Time Monitoring is already enabled for this library. I'm not sure what you mean by setting up metadata providers there as well. This is the only place I have set them up. Anybody else have any ideas why metadata isnt downloading automatically?
Carlo 4561 Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 I'm referring to the RECORDING LIBRARY where you can also setup different meta-providers to pull info from.
warrencalvert 16 Posted January 18, 2021 Author Posted January 18, 2021 Apologies if I'm being dim but I cant find where this is. Please could you point me to it?
Carlo 4561 Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 From Web Dashboard if you click on Library menu do you see a RECORDING library with your other libraries listed?
warrencalvert 16 Posted January 18, 2021 Author Posted January 18, 2021 No, I dont see that library. I just see the libraries below.
Carlo 4561 Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 This is likely contributing to your issue. What paths do you have set for these 3 fields?
warrencalvert 16 Posted January 18, 2021 Author Posted January 18, 2021 Only the Movie and TV Shows paths are used. The Other folder doesnt even exist. Movies all go to the Movies folder and TV Shows all go to the TV Shows folder and this works perfectly. Now you mention it, I do remember maybe a year ago I had a lot of issues with multiple duplicate libraries appearing on the home screen. I think this might have been the Recordings library. If this should be present in the Libraries list, should I just add it manually? If so, what folder path should I point it to? I also seem to remember the paths cant be duplicated or even subdirectories duplicated across multiple libraries. So I'm really not sure how the Recordings library should look or what folder it should point to.
Carlo 4561 Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 Create the folder "E:\Media\Other" so that you have a valid RECORDING LIBRARY default folder.
Luke 42078 Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Hi @warrencalvert has this helped you resolve your issue?
warrencalvert 16 Posted January 19, 2021 Author Posted January 19, 2021 Hi Luke Its not resolved it. I've created the folder E:\Media\Other and the library RECORDINGS now appears in the library list. However this library is empty because there's nothing in it. This folder isnt used. So I'm not really sure how this was going to fix the metadata not downloading for the other libraries. Any ideas?
Luke 42078 Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Please attach the emby server log from when a new item was imported and this happened. thanks.

So I'm not really sure how this was going to fix the metadata not downloading for the other libraries. Any ideas? Do you get a Recording Library now? If so edit the library options and select the meta-providers you wish to use. Also add your other two mount points to this library: e:\Media\Movies e:\Media\TV Shows Now refresh that library. Lastly do a test recording. When it shows up in the recording library do you now have all this additional meta-data? If not post log along with the name of what was recorded. Now with that said you have a weird combination of folders setup. Any chance you could change it to something like e:\Media\DVR for the main and remove the current movies and tv shows? This would put everything under the DVR folder and Emby will automatically create a Movies and a TV Shows folder for you. But now you only need to mount the DVR folder. You could of course move your current Movies and TV Shows to the DVR folder. It's optional but cleaner!
warrencalvert 16 Posted January 19, 2021 Author Posted January 19, 2021 I'm happy to reconfigure this to whatever is recommended for Emby to work best. But I dont understand your suggestions or how this could work. For your first suggestion of adding the two other mount points to the library, I remember trying this a year or two ago when I started using Emby. It turned out that its not supported to have two libraries that contain the same mount points. For your second suggestion, are you suggesting I create a folder called DVR and it then created subfolders called Movies and TV Shows? Isnt this exactly what I already have other than it being called MEDIA instead of DVR? Even if I do this and have just the one library pointing to DVR, I cant see how this can work. I can either set the content type to Movies or TV Shows. So which would it be? I guess metadata would work for one but not the other. Please can you clarify how you recommend setting up these libraries if you think I'm doing it wrong. thanks
warrencalvert 16 Posted January 19, 2021 Author Posted January 19, 2021 Following Luke's post, how long should I leave it after a new recording has been added before retrieving the log file? I dont know how often the automatic metadata downloading process runs or does it run immediately after a new recording has been added? Just to confirm the current status, I've recorded a couple of new movies and they have been added to the library but are missing some of the metadata. Only the metadata from the guide is there. I've checked the Recordings library and all the metadata downloaders are automatically there and enabled. So the issue is still present.
warrencalvert 16 Posted January 19, 2021 Author Posted January 19, 2021 Thinking about this again, and following cayars last post, do you recommend I remove the existing Movies, TV Shows and Recordings libraries and create a new one. I see now there's a Mixed Content option for media type. Is this the recommended configuration for Emby instead of separate libraries for TV Shows and Movies? So then would I leave the root folder (e.g. DVR in cayars example) empty and move my content to either the TV Shows or Movies subfolders accordingly? Am I right in thinking it will then automatically put new recordings in the correct subfolder and I would have just one library folder? Will I be able to browse TV Shows and Movies separately in Emby Theatre or would they all be mixed together in the same view? thanks
