[Solved] - "Preferred metadata download language" and "Country" not saved in "Metadata Settings" for Movies only (it works for TV Shows)

First of all a massive thanks for this amazing program for which I purchased the Lifetime license!

 

Setup

I'm running Emby Server 4.5.4 on a Synology NAS.

I'm French but I'm watching most of the movies in English except the French movies, so my 2 libraries (Movies and TV Shows) are setup in English (I do not prefer to split my movies and TV Shows in 2 libraries).

Please find attached the screenshots for the Movies and TV Shows Library Settings ("Movies - Library Settings 1.png", "TV Shows - Library Settings 1.png" and "TV Shows - Library Settings 2.png"). 

 

Issue

The "Preferred metadata download language" and "Country" are not saved in "Metadata Settings" for Movies only (it works for TV Shows).

To reproduce this, right click on a movie, select "Edit Metadata" (find enclosed "Edit Metadata Menu.png"), scroll down and update "Preferred metadata download language" to "French" and "Country" to "France". Click "Save". Right click again on the movie, select "Refresh Metadata" (find enclosed "Refresh Metadata Menu.png" and "Refresh Metadata Window.png").

--> All the metadata will now be in French, which is what we want.

Now right click again on the movie, select "Refresh Metadata".

--> All the metadata will now be back to English and the "Preferred metadata download language" and "Country" are now empty unfortunately.

Hi, this sounds like you changed the meta-data for NEW things you will add but ALREADY had older stuff in your library using the previous settings.

You're best bet might be to set these libraries up exactly how you want them, shut down Emby Server and delete or rename the library.db file and restart Emby.

Then do a full library scan so it will use your new settings for everything.

Any movie or TV shows added will automatically get the metadata in English from Emby which is ok. I'm then manually changing the language and country to French/France. So I'm not too sure to understand your statement "sounds like you changed the meta-data for NEW things you will add but ALREADY had older stuff in your library using the previous settings".

Nevertheless, I've shut down Emby, deleted the library.db file and restarted Emby, unfortunately the issue is still the same: if I change "Preferred metadata download language" and "Country", Emby will only save the value for TV shows (and then working, meaning the metadata is then in French), but not for movies (the value is then blank)...

I checked the .NFO files after I changed "Preferred metadata download language" and "Country": the movie one is not updated but the TV show one is... Maybe that's the reason why?

Yes, good point ebr.  You would need to make this change for EVERY LIBRARY is you want it to work this way system wide.

Apologies ebr, but what do you mean by “those settings”? All I did was deleting the library.db file and restarted the server. I did not change the settings of any library.

Hmm, if you didn't change the settings in the library to use the meta-data languages the way you want them to work moving forward why the rebuild?  Kind of defeats the purpose of the rebuild if you didn't change the library(s) settings.

I have not seen any issues adding a item to a English library, going to that item and changing its language setting and refreshing to get that item in another language.

But a server log going over a specific example may help.

Hmm, going back reading the OP post again it sounds like a problem is being described in the Library setup configuration settings for movie library itself.

@Doofre Is this correct or did I just read that out of context?

Hi Cayars,

Ok, I think you're right, I had an issue in my movie library: I forgot to tick "Nfo" in "Metadata savers"... so that's why the .nfo file was not updated after changing the Metadata manually. And as "Nfo" was ticked on the opposite in "Metadata readers", I believe that every time I was refreshing the metadata, Emby was reading the existing .nfo file that was in English! Hence never keeping the updates...

Looks like my issue is solved!
