mtouchto 0 Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 When I am trying to sign in on the 2nd computer, it, of course asks for sign on, and then it asks for server address. Underneath it says connect to server and it says host. Underneath it has 192.168.1.100 or https://myserver.com. I tried entering that 192.168.1.100 and the https://myserver.com to no avail. Where can I find the server host number or address to enter for signing into the server on the first computer with all the media (this is just for a bedroom laptop to enable watching everything Emby there). I feel so stupid, but please could someone help if i have explained my problem well enough.
ebr 16178 Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 Hi. Where did you install your server and how did you connect to it on the first machine?
mtouchto 0 Posted January 10, 2021 Author Posted January 10, 2021 i connected the server to a laptop in my living room with all the drives of media connected. They both will be on the same wifi in the same house.
ebr 16178 Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 Okay, you may need to do some basic networking research and investigate some of your settings on the server machine. If you were using an app, it should have found your server automatically if the network is configured to allow it. If using a browser, the address is shown on the front dashboard of your server configuration. Connectivity
mtouchto 0 Posted January 10, 2021 Author Posted January 10, 2021 I am a bit lost even though this is not overly technical speak. But when you say, " If you were using an app, it should have found your server automatically if the network is configured to allow it. If using a browser, the address is shown on the front dashboard of your server configuration," i am a bit lost. What app might I be using and if using a browser (which i think is what i am doing, I don't know how to find the front dashboard of my server configuration. So sorry to be so much of a lost cause here.
Carlo 4561 Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 An app can basically query the network looking for an Emby Server and then show it to you. A web browser doesn't have this ability so you will need to manually enter the URL. If looking at your web console for Emby on the Dashboard menu you will see something like this: So in a web browser with this example you would enter http://192.168.100.108:8095 The IP and port will get picked up automatically on Emby Server Startup and should always be correct for in home use.
Luke 42078 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 @mtouchto has this answered your questions?
