ohjays 0 Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 Trying to setup server on headless debian x64, but the library wont accept a smb path ie \\192.168.0.251\media (tried with slashes either way as well ) i can definitely mounts using cifs the path in question from the linux server itself but emby fails mount -t cifs -o username=guest //192.168.0.251/media /mnts/tmp works fine but the smb path fails in the setup with path not found, also network browsing does nothing , local file system browsing works log attached embyserver.txt
Luke 42079 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Hi there, what I would try instead is mounting the SMB path to a local path using the tools in the OS. Then add the local path into Emby Server. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !
ohjays 0 Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 Reason i was wanting to go by route of network share is i can set up multiple shares for various purposes with varying permission for each so not to break different media apps allready running, using share path would be simplest to me without requiring more fstab loading already using overlayfs
Luke 42079 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 The operating system's SMB implementation will support more SMB features than the one embedded in Emby Server, so that's why I suggested that.
ohjays 0 Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 Thanks i appreciate the quick response, i had hoped like kodi it would seamlessly access smb itself, (i find kodi very un-intuitive to setup etc) apart from that , maybe in time, i try to keep it as simple as possible without changing the underlying system to much to cater for apps. I could not get any smb functioning in the app itself on linux with the web interface for setup ,i had hoped there was a simple fix," you don't know what you don't know" and there is a ton of that. Nice app apart from that and it looks promising thus far, but it looks like i will need to do quite some work on getting titles recognized properly, but i do like the option to search/update info and just pasting the imdb ref, i had a bunch of lego movies that where all coming up as batman
Luke 42079 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Thanks for the feedback. We're happy to look into the movies if you want to go over examples.
ohjays 0 Posted January 12, 2021 Author Posted January 12, 2021 I do hope in future we will see smb support under linux though
Luke 42079 Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 1 hour ago, ohjays said: I do hope in future we will see smb support under linux though Unfortunately there's no native smb implementation in .net core that we'd have to build it ourselves. It's such a large undertaking that it becomes a question of do you want our resources focused on this or on actual media-related features. That's why it makes more sense to just let users mount in the operating system and defer to that support.
ohjays 0 Posted January 13, 2021 Author Posted January 13, 2021 Ahh, understood ,i had wondered about that when i saw that .net stuff in the logs, could i suggest perhaps making it clear that there is no native smb in the server under linux, granted it may be mentioned somewhere and i missed it, "you don't know what you don't know" , but there is so much to absorb i may have missed it, but at least it will save others head scratching Thanks
