johnhb 7 Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 (edited) I came to emby a week ago to see if I could finally ditch my current cobbled together MC for a more 'cohesive' experience on TVs (HTPCs), Web, Tablets, Phones, Desktop... I don't mean to be blunt - and please take this with good humour - but FWIW, from the perspective of a prospective new user, just to highlight a few things: - I download the setup exes for server and theater and they are not digitally signed - cert has expired "Oh dear, not off to a good start here.... oh, and this has been unresolved for months... Well, I suppose I trust these guys....." - I try to add my Hauppauge TV Card (KB says emby supports Hauppauge 'out of the box') only to find it doesn't - it needs a backend "Hmmm.... bit disingenuous of the KB, maybe they don't know about it... oh, raised months ago in the forums and the KBs never been changed..... Hmmm..." - Emby Theater still doesn't support gapless audio "Ok, be nice to know if this wish will ever come true, let's ask the fairy godmother (Luke??... Luke??...)" "Well, he's a very busy chap. In the meantime, let's see if I can use another client that covers all the other great features...." - ....Kodi with Embuary looks ok-ish and has sweeteners like gapless via direct play, BR/DVD menu support. "Ok now we're cobbling together again, but hey I've come this far let's give it a.... Oh, it doesn't support live TV Guide.... Oh, but there's a nextPVR subforum so that's got to be a good option! And there's a plugin, great we're in business. Let's spend a few hours configuring it up with logos and all that cos that'll also solve the lack of 'out of the box' support for my card... Now where's that plugin.... Oh it's not working.... Let's check that forum..... Oh great. It's been a dead duck for months. So Kodi's a no go and now there's no solution for sharing TV as a backend for Kodi and Emby to stay in sync...." I could go on, but even for a persistent b***er like me this is a rough ride. I guess 'lite' users may not encounter these sots of problems, but then they're unlikely to invest the sort of money you're asking for. Personally, I'd love to invest, but it's been an issue at every turn so far and I've lost sight of what my money's actually getting me. Edited January 6, 2021 by johnhb
Luke 42080 Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 Hi, we're looking at resolving the first one, and for hauppauge stay tuned for more robust tuner support coming in the near future. For now the current support requires win tv 8.5. 1
