Some thumbnails on "photos" tab open a different photo

I am using emby for a home album containing photos and videos.

Emby runs on my NAS (FreeNAS)
The videos display and play well
The photos display and play well if i view them on the "folders" tab
However on the "photos" tab the thumbnails display, but fairly often if I click a thumbnail it opens a different photo

 

I re-scanned the library, i refreshed the meta-data, and in the end I even deleted the whole jail that emby was installed in and added a fresh new install in a new jail...

but the problem is ongoing.

Anyone know how to fix this?
Some of my file names contain semicolons.  Could this be the cause?

I don't really know how to give an example.  But this is what happens.

1.) I open emby in firefox on the client
2.) I sign in
3.) I click on the album
4.) It defaults to 'videos' but i click on 'photos' to change to the photos
5.) I can see all my photos, and the thumbnails look good
From this screen I can open the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th photo without issue.  These photos are called "_MG_3513" "_MG_3529" "_MG_3544" "_MG_3549" and "1" respectively
BUT if i try to open the 6th photo called "01-07-06_0023" it opens a completely different photo.  This then happens for some, but not all, subsequent photos.  And another funny thing is that often, although not always, the photo that opens instead is one that the thumbnail of is just a few photos further down the list...

Some time ago I reported this issue, or one very much like it, and there was some effort to fix it within Emby. I needed/wanted to be able to view all my photos so I tried multiple things to fix it myself. I finally "fixed" the problem by renaming my entire photo library is groups using the sequence format:
a_###.jpg
b_###.jpg
and so on with each sequence being about 500 numbers long.

I worked with Emby for a while to try to get this fixed.

This problem seems to have its origins in a beta in April 2020. I thought it would be fixed by now. It is hard to reproduce and I have my library now named to that I have no problem but your description does seem exactly like what I reported way back then.

I noticed that there were some photos that did not show and after you passed the first one every photo after that did not show the one shown in the thumbnail.

I hope you can work with Emby better than I could when I reported the problem but I cannot help much now as I had to incorporate my "renaming" fix as my health did not allow me to investigate any deeper at the time.

I don't think I have the skills to work with emby to fix it...happy to do what I can?

But yes, this is the problem, good to know that it is already reported.  I'm also surprised that it isn't fixed?  But on the other hand I think emby is still yet to shine as a home photo/video viewing software.  It has great potential and is one of the few options that will run on FreeNAS so it will shine in this area, but it just hasn't yet.

Thankyou for sharing your fix.  It's not suitable for me personally though - I'm not really willing to re-name every photo in my collection

When you click an image, a different image is opened or perhaps the incorrect thumbnail was displayed.
When you press next, the same photo is opened again -- no matter how many times next is pressed.

I've also been experiencing this for a long time. It doesn't happen with all libraries. I generated 1000 numbered photos to post here, but the issues didn't happen. I don't want to post images of my family online. I assume it has something to do with the variance of files. Not sure if that's file type, size, resolution, ect.

I use Plex for viewing pictures now. Plex's image viewing is so much nicer.
- I don't have to use Dark Reader to browse a local https server -- because the theme does not rely on cookies...
- You can change orientation on the device (not sure why Emby still can't do that)
- The image is stretched to take up the entire screen
- There is an optional timeline below when browsing images which is very nice
- You can favorite the image in the viewer
- The viewer does not start "playing" (cycling through images) by default - which is extremely annoying to me
- And more

Cookies / Cache — whatever it’s temporary. If you don’t save that, the theme is gone. It’s very annoying. I have to use dark reader to browse Emby. A default theme should be persistent.

Anyway, it’s been discussed many times here — dark reader works fine, it’s just a little ridiculous.

Yes same here. I once looked into the source code a long time ago and found that there was a limit of 5000 photos in the indexing or viewing??? Could this still be an issue?

I definitely didn't hit that limit, so I don't think this is the issue.

But I'm wondering if it's tied to folders maybe, I have some subfolders also containing pics in there and after moving them somewhere else and only keeping just pics, the problem disappeared.
