judgey 13 Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 (edited) Hey, i got rid of swap partition after a install of ubuntu 18 server. Before i removed swap i installed a backup of emby and set that up with rclone and merges, all was working fine. Now tho i have noticed embys not picking up new media i have to manually scan. I think this is since i got rid of swap. Have i done something if so what can i do to fix it? Many thanks and happy new year! Edited January 3, 2021 by judgey
Q-Droid 989 Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 I doubt that removing swap has anything to do with your issue. To me it seems that rclone and MergerFS(is it?) are where the problem exists. Emby relies on inotify to detect changes and AFAIK neither rclone nor FUSE support that. It probably never worked but you didn't notice until after removing swap.
Luke 42077 Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Hi there, yes can you please go over an example? Thanks.
judgey 13 Posted January 3, 2021 Author Posted January 3, 2021 Ok so if i download "Flubber" the movie it wont automatically show in emby i have to click manual scan. Im 99% sure it was working fine before i removed swap (it might just be a coincidence) I installed ubuntu server, installed rclone and mergerFS then emby from a backup all was working fine... Then two days ago i removed swap partition (like i say might be coincidence) then emby stopped importing media automatically.
judgey 13 Posted January 6, 2021 Author Posted January 6, 2021 Where u able to reproduce this your end?
Luke 42077 Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 This is a very specific situation so it's not going to be easy for us to repeat all of your steps, but in general, since Emby uses INotify to detect changes, that means INotify will need to support whatever file system storage you have setup.
judgey 13 Posted January 8, 2021 Author Posted January 8, 2021 Hey, so i moved servers but 100% same setup and it works fine. Im worried tho, this was a fresh install of emby... if i use a backup of emby from my old server will this work or will it not work?
Q-Droid 989 Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Simply put there is only one way to find out... Backup /var/lib/emby before you try so you can go back if it doesn't work.
judgey 13 Posted January 9, 2021 Author Posted January 9, 2021 Hey so the new install worked great, after installing the backup and scanning for two days, its not picking up new media i dont know why.
Q-Droid 989 Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 It's hard to say without knowing what you've done. A fresh install of what and a backup of what? Specifically what was installed and what was restored?
Luke 42077 Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 Yes and why do you feel new media is not being picked up? Have you tried running a library scan?
judgey 13 Posted January 10, 2021 Author Posted January 10, 2021 So installed ubuntu 20 server installed mergerfs + rclone Installed emby, did a test on a empty folder and emby auto picked up the media without me needing to manually scan. So added rest of my media folders from rclone mount. Now emby wont auto pickup any new media added, i have to manually scan for media to show up. I thought it was a bad backup i had of emby but the same thing has happened with a fresh install. Its been working fine for the past year + i been using emby
Q-Droid 989 Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 Good to know. So everything was vanilla and not a restore of an Emby software installation or server configuration. And on this clean start with the new empty folder RTM worked. Was the empty folder also an rclone mount? I don't use rclone or have experience with it. You could install inotify-tools on ubuntu and use the inotifywait command to test and see if inotify works on your rclone volumes. Emby needs it to work for RTM.
judgey 13 Posted January 10, 2021 Author Posted January 10, 2021 because its mergerfs its stored locally until its uploaded to rclone, so it should be working as the hard drive its meant to be auto picking up is local. Thats how i understand it maybe im wrong.
judgey 13 Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 (edited) Just to update... I go this working in the end by fluke, was messing with stuff.. So i added a "local" folder to emby to scan (was the torrent download dir) worked 100% and now my problem is fixed? Removed local dir and emby is able to pick up new media still. How i dont know, Edited January 11, 2021 by judgey
Q-Droid 989 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Weird. Just to be sure it keeps working you might want to test a reboot.
judgey 13 Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 Yep your right its stopped working again
Q-Droid 989 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Can you attach the embyserver log created after the reboot?
judgey 13 Posted January 12, 2021 Author Posted January 12, 2021 Sure thing will be tomorrow now mate just got a question off topic if u don't mine... When you scan media in the main page of emby you see a frame with posters of films you got in that library, sometimes the posters are all the same. how do u get it to rescan? The posts in the library page on emby home page.
Q-Droid 989 Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 Best I can tell those get updated by a library scan which you can run from the 3-dot menu on the poster itself. In the web app hover over the lower right side corner of the poster.
