tgoodchild 3 Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 With the Roku 4660X many DVD titles in MKV containers play with slow video (subjectively appears about half speed or slower) but the audio is normal and thus the picture and audio are out of sync. In one case I left it playing this way and in a few minutes the Loading screen appeared and playback froze but I don't know if that will always happen. I haven't tried every MKV I have but what I have found so far is that: It happens on most of the DVD MKVs I tried (but not all) It has not happened with any of the Blue-ray MKVs (1080p) I tried. It has not happened with anything I tried with the web client It has not happened with anything I tried with the Roku 4200X (Roku 3) SW 9.4.0 build 4190-04 (which is not as up to date as the 4660X). I uninstalled emby server (I only selected the remove cache files option, not the remove everything option) and reinstalled it with no change. Emby server version 4.5.4.0 on Windows 10 Emby device: Roku Model 4660X - Roku Ultra, SW version 9.4.0 build 4200-46 Emby client version: Version 4.0 build 4 Example title affected: Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark MKV, MPEG2Video, AC3 Attached is the full emby server log and the ffmpeg log generated for playback of that video. Thanks for any help you can provide. ffmpeg-remux-48a70363-ce5f-476a-899c-f39b4372735a_1.txt embyserver.txt

Solution speechles 2055 Posted January 1, 2021 Solution Posted January 1, 2021 (edited) 3 hours ago, tgoodchild said: Example title affected: Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark MKV, MPEG2Video, AC3 Apologies. This is caused by Roku. They have altered their playback engine on certain models because of their architecture. The newer models will have issues because they are updating the playback engine for those models in the firmware. Certain older models will playback MKV with MPEG2 just fine. Others will cause the issue you describe. Roku will fix the issue eventually but until they do you can fix this during playback using playback correction. Press down to open the Video Player OSD. On the bottom will be a row of icons. The cog/gear icon will be the one you want to click. This will open the Playback Menu. Inside that menu will be the "Attempt Playback Correction" option you want to use. Click that once and it should solve the problem. You can use playback correction multiple times. Each time you use it will change the playback method to the next type. Let us know if this solves the problem. Apologies for the issue. We will be looking to improve this situation if Roku does not push firmware updates soon to address this issue. We will have to do something more than we are. Time will tell. But until then keep using playback correction. It will solve the problem. Roku TV has the exact same chipset as the Roku Ultra and the two share so many similar issues. Edited January 1, 2021 by speechles 2
speechles 2055 Posted January 2, 2021 Posted January 2, 2021 Follow up: https://community.roku.com/t5/Roku-Device-Features-Settings-Updates/Roku-v9-4-broke-HDHomeRun-Playback-Recordings/m-p/627196 Seems the HD Homerun people do indeed have the same problem. They also expect Roku to be doing their due diligence and fixing this on their side. Lets hope they do. 1
tgoodchild 3 Posted January 2, 2021 Author Posted January 2, 2021 Thank you! Attempt Playback Correction worked. I had tried it once before but didn't realize that using it multiple times changed the playback method each time. I will check out the roku forums. I see one of the roku community links you provided is to an aspect ratio issue which I am also having. Attempt Playback Correction worked for that too after a couple of tries. I have used roku for a long time but will reconsider using them in the future. Over the past couple of years they have introduced changes and firmware updates that caused this and other issues in the past couple of years.
