Live TV source/epg per user/TV

I have 2 VU+ boxes and want to configure one TV to use the first STB, another TV to use the second STB. The reason is that two users wanna watch different Sat channels. How to do it?

Hi, can't they each just play the channels they want?

Hi. There is no way to do this specifically, but each user can mark different channels as favorites and then sort those to the top...

Nope. Satellite box can play limited number of channels at the same time (it depends on the hardware / receivers available. Btw, Emby gets number of receivers available in the discover.json file). So the use case is the following:

1. User1 gets the list of channels (streams) / epg from one box and that box provides the stream for him/her.

2. User2 gest the list of channels / epg from another box and that another box provides the stream for the second user.

It could be achieved in multiple ways - either to have "user to dvr & epg" assignment, or Emby can manage it on the background and request the stream from the available satellite box...

Hi, While this doesn't help you at present, the Live TV currently in development will handle this.  You'll be able to combine the channels from both Sat box into one listing and Emby will track the "tuners" available and be able to automatically roll over from one sat box to the next.

Right now the only solution likely is using tags and parental restrictions which may work for you but is a decent amount of work depending on how many channels you have available.  You could try taking 5 channels and using tags on just them, then setting up parental restrictions to eliminate the tags from showing up.  You could use tags such as "Sat1" & "Sat2" for example.  Then one user has "Sat1" restricted while the other user gets "Sat2" restricted.

That may work for users, but the DVR will still have access to all tuners which could cause a snafu if it's recording.

Ok, got it. Thank you.

Also, satellite boxes require some sort of the power management support and zapping... I probably do it as a part of my transcoding service, and switch to the Live TV solution as soon as it is ready.

Buy yourself 2 cheap fire sticks off amazon for $30 each and install emby server on both, remote into them from a laptop adding your premier emby key on both of them. Set each fire stick to a different sat box and use them for iptv only 🤣 Also adding a usb hard drive to firesticks is done with a usb hub.

Another way is add both sat boxes in tvheadend and separate each one to a specific ip address so one user gets to see one set of channels and the other sees the 2nd channel list. Then add the ip from your tvheadend server with epg to emby.
