Why is server stopping rather than restarting after an update?

I've had my server setup to automatically restart to apply updates ever since I installed it a year ago. As of about 2 weeks ago though, it doesn't restart anymore. The logs say that it's restarting, but then at the end of the logs it says, "shutdown complete". Is this a known issue? I'm not sure why it would all of a sudden stop restarting and just shutdown instead.

is it trying to update but cannot?

Stop all Emby processes both the server and the taskbar. Both.

Then use %appdata% and go to Emby-Server and look for system-old and if you have one good. Delete system entirely. Rename system-old to system. Now restart Emby. It will open. Now update again and hopefully it works this time.

No, it updates. But after the update it stops instead of restarting.

Ok, I deleted the system folder and replaced with system-old. I waited overnight, but it didn't restart automatically, so I just restarted manually. Manually restarting always works, it's the automatic that was stopping. I'll wait until the next automatic restart and see if it's working again.

Thanks. I'm waiting for the next update to see if it happens again. Maybe deleting the system folder and restoring system-old did the trick.

Ok, I'm seeing this issue pop up again on my beta server. I'll PM logs from before and after last nights DLNA update.

I noticed the the same on my primary beta as it did not restart, still investigating.  None of my other test systems are having this issue though, but they are on different machines.

I have also noted this but I had it happen with an update and restart attempt from the settings screen.

It has happened a couple of times in the past but I just accepted the issue as a glitch. It has happened on both my beta server and o my release server I do remember that it has only happened to me on a new server insulation. Plugin updates and restarts for maintenance purposes seem fine.

For me it is not at all a big deal but I can see situations for others where it "could" be a serious inconvenience.

I have noted no pattern except it is always when the server updates.

From a update standpoint there is nothing new and I can replicate on every release via localhost leaving the browser open.

This issue is my beta system will not restart, but other systems will.

Yep it is just one of my two systems (one that is a beta) that run on a computer that seems to have this problem a lot. It is not on every update but one update out of every 5-6 or so fails to restart after downloading the beta server. The release server updates fine most of the time but it has failed to restart a couple of times in the last year.

It is inconsistent and unpredictable and therefore I am sure it will be easy to find and fix. ;)

BTW: I have looked and there is no error generated or shown anywhere I have found on whichever system is involved, it just does not restart Emby. When this happens a manual restart of Emby always works fine.

Comparing the logs on two different machine they are the same, so I will just make a mental note for now as a normal restart does not work on that system.  But it just recently started doing this.
