NO INTERNET = NO EMBY

Hi.  That is not completely accurate.  There are device limits as well.

But the Emby Premiere key on the server is the license, no? And the one that is validated on at least a daily basis. Without knowing how it works my guess is that usage tracking is being done off-server hence the need to call home when new clients connect. This puts a damper on things when the internet service goes down and people decide to watch something on devices that hadn't been used for some time or at all.

As I said, there is a device limit and this limit is not per server, it is per key.  Also, unfortunately, making it easier to steal Premiere has to be a consideration for us as well.

Yeah, I understand that you have to protect your assets and I hadn't thought of shared keys. I still think there ought to be a way to allow temporary access when the server has a validated license.

Emby DOES try to allow temp access but it's not always possible.  Any device that requires "phone home" to work at the OS level is problematic.  If using Emby Connect for local access that could cause an issue as well as you're using an INTERNET login vs a local login.

But in general if directly logging into your Emby Server on the home lan and you actually use the device it should be able to cache this information and work through temp blackouts reasonable well for a few days.
