How to config TV Series includes Movies?

Hello, there, pls forgive my poor English, this is not my major languege.

Here is the thing, I setup an emby server in my NAS, and make some libraries in it, such as "TV series", “Movies”,"music" and so on.....

I have full episodes of "The X Files", this TV Show contains 11 seasons and 2 movies, well, the 11 seasons seems so fine, they can be displayed and ordered properly, but, I don't know how to place these two movies into proper order. The first The X Files movie premiered in 1998, it called "I want to believe", and its story is between Season 5 and Season 6.When I edit its metadata, season number can only filled with integer number such as 5,6,7,8 and so on....numbers that called decimal fraction, such as 5.1,5.2,5.3,5.4...cannot be filled. apparently, I cannot fill number 5 or 6, therefore this movie will be sorted into that season,So, what should I do to put this movie just between season5 and season6?

In fact, I have serial TV series fit this condition, for example,"Battlestar Galactica", it has Miniseries for pilot episodes, 5 seasons, 4 theater version movies and a 10-episodes online series called "resistance"...

"24", it has 9 seasons and a movie that between season6 and season7

Pls tell what should I do to make these seasons and movies show in proper order and timeline, thanks

My best for you.

Make Season 0 in those TV Show folders, that will be your Specials folder. Afterwards, name those movies as S00Exy as per your metadata provider, for instance TVDB. Later, when you Edit metadata for that particular item you will have "Special Episode Info" listed, which will allow precise placement inside your Show: when to be aired, Before/After which Season and/or particular episode.

Cheers

Thanks for replying.

The method that you provide, I've already tried. It really not what I'm looking for.It has downsides:

1.You must check TVDB database first to know which movie's specific special number. For example, "Fight the further",its number is S00E01.

2.Movie will be cataloged into seasons, as a special episode, not a movie.

3.As it shows as an episode, no one will notice that he/she had seen a movie at all.

4.All specials will be cataloged together, not independencely.

5.Each Specails has the same banners icons backdrops and so on.

This is what it looks like,by your method:

1.thumb.png.ca2f768dacb2001b8c76491de7d3a250.png

2.thumb.png.9e84ee6ce82e404de6310371d2ac58e5.png

As you can see, specials is in front of seasons, and "fight the further" is cataloged into season 5 as special episode(the red boxed")

What I really want, is like this:

3.thumb.png.2b5103ad5a663586f3f69b3b4168c03e.png

4.thumb.png.b8fe368eaad80da996265ff56804b054.png

1.Fight the further will be cataloged as a Movie independencely, and it showed at the same level of seasons.

2.I can place this movie just between season 5 and season 6, as I marked.

3.Even I setup library as "mixed content",I still can't designated a number is between 5 and 6,so,it won't work.

4.In this method, I don't need to check on TVDB.com for its specific special number, just scrap as a movie.

5. I can change season 6 to season 7, and designated "Fight to further" as season 6, that will be sorted correctly. But it has downsides, right? To much work to do.If I don't change season 6  to season 7, it will be showed like above, fight the further has 23 episodes.

So, here is what I'm really asking for: Can I setup these contents freely? Put it anywhere that I like, cataloge it anyway I want?

BTW:Could you pls add a function that I can designate movie's ID number, therefore I can arrange my movie in a specific order, place whole series of movies together by a certan timeline, for example, the whole 24 movies of Marvel Universe.

Thanks, my best!

You're correct, the method he suggested does have downsides but it will at least show the movie to appear underneath the series.

That's currently the best way, well either that or creating a collection.

Well, in fact, to achieve what I said is not so hard, just add a feather that can "sort by ID numbers".

Here is what it works:

you can specificly designat a user's ID number of each content, it only effects this specific TV Series or Movie Collection, then, you can shoose either sort by increase or decrease order, right?

Could this feather fuctional in next update? After all, this is not a free software.

Thanks.

That part is easy. The hard part is determining the impact to the user interface of putting movies in a TV library. That's why it's not a quick throw-in. It's a good idea for the future though. Thanks for the feedback.

You could create an strm file as a special (season 0) and then give it the appropriate positioning metadata.

Many movies that are actually part of a given story line for a TV series also have a second link as a TV series special and EMBY has the ability to fit TV specials as part of the season in which it aired. Just be sure to use "series name - s00eXX - optional text.ext" as that is the form that I know works. Also you may have to manually create the entry if the TV.DB does not list a movie as a special.

That is what works with the Babylon 5 "specials" that were actually aired as movies and it works very well.

Ok i created the 0 season folder it worked.Let me ask what if i add this file to the end of season 4 that's where it fits.

would i get corrected metadata for it ?

So there are two ways to do this -

a) Create a .strm file which point to the actual movie (in the movie library).    This will then 'inherit' the metadata from the movie.  To get it to display in the correct location - you need to edit it's 'Special Episode Info' metadata - and put in the correct 'Airs during season' and 'Airs before Episode' (use 99 to put it at the end..)

b) Just copy/move the file into the TV Series Season 0 - and do an identify using it's imdb number.   Again, modify it's 'Special Episode Info' as above.   However, with this way, you'll get 2 items listed in a search etc.

So it needs a little work - as you are tricking emby into mixing libraries - it will not automatically get the metadata for you.

Quick loophole for this... The way I acheived this was by removing the season number for the season folder only via the emby metadata editor.

But, the episodes should still have their numbers intact in the metadata.

When you remove all the season numbers (just leave them blank) you can then use the sort name field as a way to order the seasons/movies any way you want.

So far I have not noticed any bad effects in my apps by doing this.
