Michael1952 1 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Ok, I am fairly new to Ubuntu, but i have a basic knowledge of file structure and paths. My problem is that when I try to set up my library and indicate the path in the appropriate place it is rejected and I am shown an error message: I have tried any number of combinations of path but I am sure I am using the correct one. It is: ~/media/michael/Music/ . Caps and syntax are correct. Here's a screen shot of the disk location: Oh, I also checked the permissions for the folders and they all have read/write/and edit permissions. I am at a loss for anything else to try. If some kind sole would point me in the proper direction I would be grateful. Thanks in advance. M1952
mark-in-dallas 87 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 (edited) You could try rereading the thread you posted last Wednesday with the exact same issue, where we helped you solve it. Edited December 22, 2020 by mark-in-dallas

Thanks @Luke he couldn't be bothered to respond after we offered assistance last week and asked him the same question when it appeared that we had helped him resolve the issue, which is a probably at least in part why nobody else is willing to step in and offer assistance. Michael1952 1 Posted December 24, 2020 Author Posted December 24, 2020 Hey guys I am sorry I have caused a problem. I did't realize my post of last week was still active. I was in a conversation with Mark and was stopped cold with a message that said i had reached a limit of 14 posts so i could not continue the conversation with Mark that day. I started another conversation not realizing I should continue the thread i started last week. I dont want to start off on the wrong foot so like i said i am sorry i caused a problem and no Mark i didn't get my problem solved and i did read thru the thread that i stated last week. It still didn't help.
Michael1952 1 Posted December 24, 2020 Author Posted December 24, 2020 Luke as things stand now no my problem has not been resolved and i would appreciate some help on this if i am not blacklisted. I posted some screenshots of what i am seeing and had hoped that that would clarify my situation. So like I said I could use the help.
mark-in-dallas 87 Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Did your enter your password after entering the command: sudo usermod -a -G michael emby? What happened after doing so?
Michael1952 1 Posted December 24, 2020 Author Posted December 24, 2020 Hi Mark yes i did enter the password and it gave me an error message. Can't remember now what the message was now tho.
Michael1952 1 Posted December 24, 2020 Author Posted December 24, 2020 I'm sorry about last week Mark. I truly couldn't answer your questions. I was blocked from further posts.
mark-in-dallas 87 Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 (edited) No worries, I assumed that you had resolved the problem and then didn't bother to come back and let us know. If you want to give me SSH access I would be happy to login to your server and try to correct the issue for you. I you want me to do so PM me the I.P. Address and login info.. Michael1952 1 Posted December 24, 2020 Author Posted December 24, 2020 Mark You will have to tell me how to do that, I am new to Ubuntu,
Michael1952 1 Posted December 24, 2020 Author Posted December 24, 2020 Mark i looked back on the thread we were on on the 17th and when i put in my password nothing happened it just went to a prompt.
mark-in-dallas 87 Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Okay, what might be easier than instructing you on installing OpenSSH would be to just have you download Team Viewer open the one time use option and PM me the ID and Password, and that way you can see what I'm doing.

What was in front of the $ after you typed in your password? Was it michael or root?

mark-in-dallas 87 Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 (edited) Just got off the phone with Michael and we were able to resolve the issue. The problems were due to: 1. ACL permissions set for media directory. 2. michael directory ownership set to root root. 3. michael directory permissions not set correctly. To resolve, we removed ACL permissions, changed michael directory ownership to michael michael and added michael to the emby group, and set read/write/execute permissions to michael directory. Michael1952 1 Posted December 26, 2020 Author Posted December 26, 2020 Just wanted to wrap things up here. Mark was great he got with me on the phone and we went step by step and resolved each problem and were able to get my library working properly. Thanks Mark for all your help it made a useless program function the way it was intended.
