jsc1205 51 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 I'm thinking of switching back to Emby since Plex just cannot get things together on their development end. The request to implement support for multiple versions is going on 8+ years and tons of folks are getting fed up.....me included. Since I'm probably going to switch back, I noticed on the support page for movie naming, it mentions Emby supports BDMV. Thought I would try it and used MakeMKV did the back of up a bluray disc. When I now try to play the movie, it gives me the following message: "Playback of bluray folders in this app is experimental. Some titles may not work at all. For a better experience, consider converting to MKV video files, or use an Emby app with native bluray folder support." I click the "got it" button and get the eternal spinning circle. So does this work? Broke? Or am I missing something??
Carlo 4561 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Hi, Well like it said it's experimental. For the most part you should try to avoid "disc rips" completely as they are problematic at best since they were never made for streaming. You can convert these discs to mkv files pretty easily with MakeMKV.
jsc1205 51 Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 Thanks for the response cayars! I have been using MakeMKV for a long time. Speaking of that, is there an advantage of using M2TS over MKV? Read somewhere that are using it over MKV for better lossless quality, etc.
Carlo 4561 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 MKV has much better general support so unless you have a specific need for the M2TS contain I'd avoid it. The only thing I've personally ever used M2TS containers for is 3D video as the Samsung TV has the ability to auto switch 3D modes for that container. If the 3D video was in an MKV I have to hit the 3D button to select the 3D mode (not a big deal). 1
jsc1205 51 Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 Makes sense! Thanks so much for the responses!
