Browncoat1984 5 Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 So I have some playlists of music I want to download for offline play for when I don't have internet connection (like when I'm driving) - then I went to download the playlist I click the download button and it downloads all the albums associated with the playlist, however it does not actually download the playlist itself. Is this normal behavior or am I doing something wrong? 4
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 The Emby playlist would not work as it contains the original media path not the downloaded file location on the newly download item to the client. So a new playlist would have to be generated for this downloaded material some how. Or are you referring to a different playlist?
Browncoat1984 5 Posted December 21, 2020 Author Posted December 21, 2020 So in other words when I download a playlist to my phone from my server it won't actually save the playlist info just download the songs and I would have to create a new playlist on my phone. 1
Luke 42077 Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 Hi there, we currently don't support downloading the actual playlist, but this is planned for future updates of the android, iOS and Windows apps. Thanks for the feedback. 1 1
BigMamma 0 Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Hi Luke, What is the status with making playlist content downloaded to iOS? Regards, BM P.S. Or, what's the workaround? How can I download music to my iPhone so I can play when not at home? You can still download the contents of the playlist using the download features in our iOS app. It's only the playlist itself that we don't yet support, but is planned for the future. Thanks.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 2, 2021 Posted November 2, 2021 Depending on the playlist you are talking about, the actual Emby playlist can not be downloads as the media path will not exist on your device. Spoiler <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?> <Item> <Added>3/3/2021 11:33:31 AM</Added> <LockData>false</LockData> <LocalTitle>Mixed</LocalTitle> <RunningTime>157</RunningTime> <Genres> <Genre>Country</Genre> <Genre>Acoustic</Genre> </Genres> <Studios> <Studio>Reprise Records</Studio> <Studio>Capitol Records</Studio> <Studio>Asylum Records</Studio> </Studios> <PlaylistItems> <PlaylistItem> <Path>C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Music - emby metadata\Blake Shelton\All About Tonight\01 Blake Shelton - All About Tonight.flac</Path> </PlaylistItem> <PlaylistItem> <Path>C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Music - emby metadata\Blake Shelton\All About Tonight\04 Blake Shelton feat. Miranda Lambert - Draggin' the River.flac</Path> </PlaylistItem> </Item> So Playlists have to be totally reworked in a future update, or Playlist has to be regenerated on the downloaded device.
K1ng_Lear 237 Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 Hoping for this feature, too. Oh, a funny thing. EMBY works with the playlists I created on my Synology while Plex can‘t do this. Otherwise is the offline music capability of Plex better. Sad to say this but in my eyes it’s true. 1
sopers 2 Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 So I cannot download my playlist and listen my playlist offline media. That was the only reason I purchased Emby. I could do this with Plex. When will this become a feature? 1

Lazarus_Long 80 Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Just found this out myself. Sucks that 2 years later playlists still aren’t an option.
eraser8 55 Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 +1 on that. The offline mode should be a bit more user-friendly to, at least, be able to put all the song that we have in the current read playlist and play all the song continously. Currently, we need to clic on each song one by one.... Not really user-friendly!! I know you work hard guys! Continue your good work! 1

I’ve seen this requested since at least 2020, and if I spend the money for Emby Premiere, I would like to have some idea as to when this is coming please. 1

Hi @Luke- sorry to write again but do you have any sort of timeline at all? I am literally waiting to buy Emby Premiere for this feature only, I know you probably can’t give me an exact date, but any sort of timeframe I can hope for at all?

I’m used to the development time of Jellyfin (literally years and still no features), so are we talking within a year or so or longer? I only ask because this feature was requested 3 years ago. For my sanity I just need to know in general as I have no idea what the development speed is for Emby.
Ugnaughts 53 Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 (edited) @Luke ive been using and testing media server software over the past 15 yrs. every few years all end up tring all again to see which is the most straight forward and low maintence and complete media software. like many other folks out there. we really dont like having half dozen pieces of software for media. i just tried emby again today and im extremly pleased with how they have refined it in so many ways. i started the monthly subscribe to test out the livetv/record. but evently added movies and shows. super easy and layout is great. but like others have said this is truely the missing link that keeps people from switching over from plex. im still going to keep emby for everything except music because if i cant sync music playlist to my phone then whats the point. i would just drag and drop the music to a folder on my phone or a usb to plug into car. its not a deal breaker though. i understand it is tricky to convert a playlist from one file system to another and map properly. this software has now replaced channelsdvr and most of the reasons i use plex for except music playlists. i still use zaptomcl for guide and xteve to fine tune and map livetv channels. but hopfully i will be able to replace them too after learning more about how emby does the guide and channel editing. but i will say, when emby gets offline music playlist sync working. plex will be no more! and i will do my happy dance lol Edited October 4, 2023 by joekingcool 1 1
Ugnaughts 53 Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 (edited) @Luke @TariqK @swallman @eraser8@sopers@K1ng_Lear@Happy2Play@BigMamma@Browncoat1984 i found an easy workaround to offline music. i use emby for music now and the playlists, which works great if you listen to music where you have lan access or unlimited cell data. unfortunately i don't use unlimited cell data plans, so i prefer an offline music player with my playlists. 1. i converted my playlists to standard m3u from plex. 2. moved m3us to main folder for music for emby. 3. scan music folder in emby 4. open each playlist in emby , and move just one song to different position, for each playlist. this makes emby redo the playlist with relative locations. making playlist universal on different devices like android in my case. 5. share music folder on your network pc. 6. get android app foldersync. 7. sync music folder to android music folder. it will autosync if you like. 8. install pi music player on android. set and scan music folder on phone. 9. goto settings\import android playlists\select all\import android playlists once setup , all you have to do to keep in sync is step 7 and 9 then pi music player can be your offline music player that will be synced with your emby music playlists. if anyone has a better suggestion please chime in. hope this helps others in this frustrating topic. ps. i big con for some is. you will have to sync all your music to your phone. later i might make an app to only sync the songs that are in the playlist, while plugging directly into pc. but that's when i have more time. Cluttered 15 Posted May 23, 2025 Posted May 23, 2025 Does anyone know of a music player on iPad that could download my playlists from emby? I know playlists are "coming soon" but that seems to be the stock answer, along with "it's on our todo list", 5 years isn't really soon. Not sure I will still be alive in another 5 years so "soon" isn't really an option for me. It would be nice to be able to listen to my music offline while at the hospital, I don't mind getting another app but can't so far find anything that works. I don't really want to mess around with apple music, unless that is the only option, but anytime I get involved with the apple iTunes replacements I end up regretting it. 1
Cluttered 15 Posted May 23, 2025 Posted May 23, 2025 I installed evermusic connected to my music folder via smb and then created a playlist manually in there, set it to offline mode so hopefully that will all work. A lot of work and a pain, plus another £30 for the app. 1
