Actors 'Role' missing when OMDB set to first under "The Movie Fetchers" option. Moving TMDB to first fixed it.

Noticed fairly recently that the 'Cast & Crew' metadata is missing the 'Role' when videos are added. The entry below the actors name just says 'Person'. (See before and after photos below).

- A check of the nfo file confirmed that 'Role' is not there.
- Had OMDB as the first option for fetching metadata (with TMBD second).
- Refreshing Metadata' or manually deleting the nfo did not fix this

Simply moving TMDB up (TMDB first, OMDB second) under the "The Movie Fetchers" option; and doing a 'Refresh Metadata/Replace All Metadata, fixed the issue

Forgot to mention that I Initially thought it might be an issue with my OMDB plugin; however I had a similar issue with TVDB and oddly enough, changing TMDB to first (TVDB second) under 'Episode metadata downloaders' also resolved the  'Person' issue I was having.

Ok. Thanks for the quick response. Seems odd though. As if  something was changed (possibly 'broke') at some point a while back. I have always had OMDB as the first 'fetcher' for as long as I can remember and it's only items added in the last few months have failed to include the 'Actors Role'.

Sorry I often don't notice Actor's roles unless I'm looking for something. Couldn't be more than a few months though.

Just throwing it out there, If OMDB was not working for me and TMDB being next; got the 'role' information instead. Then at some point something seemed to have changed and now ONLY OMDB was getting the 'Cast & Crew' information. Hence the missing actor 'role'.

Except..

I Also see this happening with TVDB as first fetcher (mentioned in my post). TVDB does have the Actors 'Role' data (at least on the website), yet I have been getting 'Person' instead on all recent video additions to the library.

In anycase; I seem to have a solution for the moment. Won't know for sure until I add/move more items to the library.

Because we used to have special sauce to use another provider for the cast list no matter what you selected. Now you get what you pick.

This is not working for me.  I turned off OMDB and moved TheMovieDb to first, restarted Emby and tried variations for refresh metadata.  I now have only one person (usually the director) identified as "person".

Not sure I can help but here are my Movie Fetchers settings. I didn't turn OMDB off as you said; just moved 'TheMovieDb' to the top.

I did a quick test with my setup. I checked the TMDB site to see what 'Cast' info they had then made a Mulan 2020 folder with in a dummy video. I then clicked the "..." on my Library folder, then clicked 'Scan Library Files' from the pop up menu,  and a minute later; here is what I got:

Sorry to hear that. Odd that the plugin fails to parse the 'Actor' data, but gets all the other metadata.

Attached is the Mulan.nfo file and an older file Lucy.nfo. What I mean is in the Lucy.nfo file all of the actors are listed:

One quick observation is that instead of having

V:\Emby\Movies\Mulan\Mulan.mp4

You should name this instead

V:\Emby\Movies\Mulan (2020)\Mulan (2020).mp4

That will help to make sure you identify movies correctly. Without the year you could have just as easily matched incorrectly to the 1998 version of Mulan.

So new movies work fine.  Deleting the .NFO file did not work.  For movies that were in my database, the only thing that ultimately fixed them was to move the movie file out of the OS folder, delete the movie in Emby, then put the movie file back and rescan.

Another update: I decided to just redo the entire library. The same issue is persisting and I have to move a few out at a time, then move back it. Really going to be annoying if I have to do over 3000+ movies this way.

 

Sorry for so many updates but discovering new things as I go along. Decided to redo my entire library. Now ALL movies are having this issue and the only information being pulled in is the director as "person". I have refreshed meta data more times than I care to imagine.

I just got done redoing my ENTIRE library. Some were able to properly get the information while having to many to get information seems to mess it up. Again, refreshing the media does NOT do anything to fix this.

Also, more information to add. Anytime I select the option to "Identify" a video, it finds it no issues but does not do anything beyond this (one person, usually director and role stating person). examples, every single one.
