brentrad 1 Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 (edited) Android app v3.1.69 on several Pixel phones (different models) Server v4.5.4.0 on Windows 10 20H2 On Android phones, streaming a music file will stop playing in a random spot, after playing a song or two. Sometimes you can restart playback, other times the app will appear like it's responding, but just has the "waiting" swirly animation (you can still click around in the app and choose another song, but it won't ever actually play. No error message. Closing and restarting the app doesn't generally help.) Other times the Android app seems to work fine, might be different songs/albums. The playback position bar when playback stops, will look like it's only a 5-10 seconds into the track, even if it played back half the track before stopping. Server log attached. Issue was happening from 19:11 to 19:36. I had it save the error log immediately after the last stopped play at 19:36. Issue may have been happening earlier in the day, on another Android phone. Issue has been happening for at least a week I believe - I've experienced it in the past, don't recall when. I also use the Emby Theater 3.0.11 Windows app on a regular basis, but I haven't experienced this issue recently there. Let me know if you need any more details or info. Abobader 3470 Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Hello brentrad, Please wait for someone from staff support or our members to reply to you. It's recommended to provide more info, as it explain in this thread: How to Report a Problem Thank you. Emby Team
Luke 42085 Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Hi, we're looking into this. Thanks for reporting. 1
brentrad 1 Posted December 18, 2020 Author Posted December 18, 2020 A bit more info: Used the same emby Android app on my phone (Android app v3.1.69 on a Pixel 3a w/ Android 11) later the same day after reporting my issue above: same behavior (playing a song or two then randomly stopping - UI responsive but won't actually play any songs, sometimes able to restart playback, sometimes having to close app and restart) playing downloaded music files from a synced playlist. This was away from the house, outside our home WiFi, on a cell data connection in the car.
geooffy 0 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 I'm having the same problem. Emby will play one song fine, and a bit before playback will stop and can't be restarted. Often I can hit stop and then start playing something else, but sometimes I have to completely restart the Emby app. The second song will play for a little while, but the progress bar won't go past 8 or 9 seconds (it will actually play longer than that). Same as brentrad, app is responsive, but playback can't be restarted. I'm getting the same behavior for both downloaded and streamed music, both on and off my local wifi. (Pixel 4, Android 11, 3.1.71)
Solution Carlo 4561 Posted December 22, 2020 Solution Posted December 22, 2020 Hi, Try Android 3.1.72 which should fix this.
brentrad 1 Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 Had a chance to try out Emby 3.1.72 on multiple Android phones over the Christmas weekend, and this issue appears resolved! Thank you very much for the quick response and resolution! Please relay this message to anyone at Emby that should hear this: When Google Play Music shut down, I wanted to switch to a new music streaming solution that I could control. I tried Plex first - I had used it in the past and had experience setting it up and using it. Plex had an issue with playing downloaded/synced music files, so I reported the issue on their forums, similar to what I did here for Emby. It took a month for anyone at Plex to respond, while in the meantime over 30 other users posted on my post and said they were having the same issue. Three months later, and the issue still wasn't resolved (although there was one post from Plex that said an update should have fixed it) - all the while Plex continued to release new versions with new features, while neglecting to resolve the issue. I cancelled my subscription to Plex, and subscribed to Emby Premiere instead. Emby has occasional issues, but you actually take the time to respond to bug reports (Luke responded to my post within 8 hours, which REALLY impressed me!), and actually fix the issues within a reasonable timeframe. I'm also letting everyone know that asks, to go with Emby over Plex if you're thinking of doing the "stream your own media from your own server" route. Thanks again! 1
