Emby can't play audio for ".mpg" or ".mpeg" videos

I usually watch emby on a windows PC, but I set up my new android phone yesterday.  It plays the audio for ".avi", "mp4", and ".wmv" videos just fine.  But if I try to play a ".mpg" or ".mpeg" video, the audio just consists of a short repetitive blast of sound.  This is at all volume levels, so the sound is not being overdriven.  Nor is it radio interference; I've checked.

Do I need some additional audio codecs for my phone, and if so, how do I get them?
