Why doesn't Emby correctly found cover for a lot of movies?

Hello,
I'm sorry for post, but I have a few questions.
My Emby server doesn't found cover for a lot of movies. I cannot figure why.. :(

- Sometimes Emby doesn't match the association with TMDB movie.... OK I can manual fix the association... but all my movies are located and named as follow:

Movies/Movie Title (year)/Movie Title (year) - 1080p AAC.mkv

but emby cannot correctly associate the movie with tmdb

- As per attached screenshot, why emby doesn't collect the cover for movies? A lot of movies are missing cover, but TMDB_id is correctly set and TMDB has the cover.
(Yes, I tried various rescan... but nothing happened :(   )

Should I change some setting configuration?

thanks in advace

What are your Library "fetcher settings"?

Have you specified a preferred language for images?  This can limit the possibilities to find an image, it seems to me.

@pwhodges No image-language set :)

I've no other suggestion, then.  I sometimes find there is no image found by Emby until I go manually into "Edit Images" and then explicitly toggle the "Any Language" switch.  I don't know if that setting is default when no language is set, but it doesn't seem to me that it is - it would be interesting to have confirmation.

Hi there, can you please go over a specific example of file and folder naming? thanks.

Right.  I created a new library with a single film in; it was a mixed content library, because that was where I had identified this issue.  The library was given the directory "Image test":

files.png.66d8a5430c049c247cbc7a7a7125085d.png

When the library had scanned, no sensible image was shown:

scan1.thumb.png.3407ae78b97beea663ae7bbac5fe05b8.png

So I went to edit the images, and did a search.  This showed that OMDB was presenting a blank image, but no other choice was offered:

scan2.thumb.png.3a937832efbba7d9c95e08cc87667e84.png

Then I enabled "All Languages", and a sensible image was offered:

scan3.thumb.png.7fcdf940e38cc9205acd4de8ed8eca63.png

As TMDB has a higher priority than OMDB, this should have been found before.  Now, my language options for the library were as follows:

language.png.26e974d9c8d79d0ffe1975452d15d577.png

I presumed that as no image language was specified, any language would be found and offered.  But evidently this is not the case, as the Japanese image was not found in this case until I flipped the switch to say "Any Language".  If not specifying a language doesn't mean that, then the option should be added.

I have added the log, which was rotated immediately before I went through all this.

If you leave the image download language blank then it uses the metadata download language, so compare that language to the images that are available on the providers, and that should give you your answer.

So there is no way to set the library to get images regardless of language, other than doing it individually?

I have a library of Japanese films with the metadata language set to English because that's what I read, but about 20% of the films only have Japanese posters (because they've not been released elsewhere), which are not surprisingly labelled as Japanese.  So I have to go through each of those films to manually find and select an image.

It would be good if Emby had an "All Languages" option for the images, and maybe show the default not as blank (= no preference) but as the actual option "Same as Metadata Language".  There actually seems little point in the separate image language option if all it can do is select a single different language...

Personally I would complain if Emby started getting images in other languages do to set language not available.  To me Emby has done what you configured it to do.  You are set to English and only available image is Japanese.

If Emby where to have a configurable secondary preference then it would be another story. (there are requests)

I believe Emby will fallback to English but will not fallback to any other language, currently.

I thought my Image Language selection was not set to English.  Emby made that choice without telling me.  If the default selection had said "Same Language as Metadata" rather than just a blank, then I would have been no better off in practical terms, but I would have known where I stood from the start.

Emby has always used library as default.

I guess there needs to be a note added underneath these options just like there is at item level.  Pretty sure unless specifically set they are inherited for system level.

That's sensible - but it should not distract from the fact that I and the OP (I suspect) would be better served by an alternative option which is not currently possible.

But everyone will complain why am I getting foreign language images.  I know i would and have in the past.

Until there is a configurable fallback language there is no real option for this.

That's why I already suggested it as a separate, additional option; I have no reason to want to remove the default, now I know what it is - only to request an additional option that is not currently available (but is possible, because I can select it when editing images individually).

hi,
my library folders and files are named as per screenshot.

Moreover, I'm trying to set the "language" for image scraper and I'll report the outcome ;)

@fatshotty Could you start your own topic since it's different than what's being talked about here?

I'd like to see the default soundtrack's language be an option, or a backup option, for images. Obviously I want my descriptions and such to be in English, but if the only text on the cover is the title then for a foreign-language film the cover would be classified as being in that language, even if it's the same as the cover used for US/UK/Australian releases. I've had at least one film where I had to toggle "any language" to on just so I could select the cover art that was on the Blu-ray I was holding in my hand.
