Move/Change paths to existing content

I'm changing the mount points for content used in some of my libraries, and I'd like to minimize the impact to Emby if I can. In particular, I'd like to avoid re-scanning everything as though it were new, and as a consequence re-adding everything as though it were new and presenting it on the home page as such.

Essentially, I'm going to add an additional mount point from a drive letter to a network path, so it will be literally the same content on the same backend, just accessed from a different (network share) path. Is it possible to minimize the impact? It seems like in the past, when I add duplicate content, it gets treated like it's new. If it shouldn't do this, cool, I'll just add new, update, and remote the old paths.

Thanks!

Do you save nfo files with your media?

Not currently. I'd be fine with enabling it, but I'm assuming it won't retro-actively add those to existing content. I'm not in a hurry to make the change, so if I can do things to make it go smoother and it'll take a little time, that's fine (i..e if I turn storing nfo on, and it will add retro-actively, that's fine).

You'll have to do a full scan when moving your media then.

What I would do is go to Library menu option, then click the ADVANCED tab. You can then set it this way.

Now since the system will use file dates your content shouldn't show up as new.

Without doing database and some library config file modifications manually, a rebuild of those moved items will happen.

Ah, that's not a bad idea, at least to cope with that part. Thanks!

Yeah, I figured it'd be something like that. I don't mind doing db work, but I don't think it'll be worth the effort, I'll just let a re-scan happen.

Thanks everyone!

If you have not done any metadata/image customization (not saved with media), then yes letting Emby do its thing is the best bet.
