esin8785 1 Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) Ok I purchased a domain name from GoDaddy Domains, there is a section where I can forward my domain name to ip address which I did and set it to my emby server. I can reach my server via the domain name on Browser only I cannot use it on emby apps or nothing. In the settings in Emby network I changed the section where it asks me to enter a domain or a dns domain and I did, it changed the IP Wan address to mydomain.me/8096, when I select that it does not appear t all it will not connect at all through the emby apps, I can ony access it via just the domain no port added, what am I doing wrong here, I also having issues with SSL and Im not sure what to do Edited December 10, 2020 by esin8785

In dashboard wan IP right now shows the IP of connection one for lan and one for wan currently. When I change the settings it shows under wan mydimain.com/8096 but when u click it, nothing shows up but if I take out the port number after domain name it appears even if I don't have it changed like right now it will go to my emby server no matter what through the domain name via the browser but not the app Idk hos sensitive the forum is with posting links if its not supposed to be there I'll remove it www.e-sin.me you can go there and it will open up a login for my server via the browser only In edit DNS section of domain I have it forwarded to my wan ip In emby app it wants a host and port idk what I put in there if it changes if I change network settings on emby or what Edited December 10, 2020 by esin8785
rbjtech 5284 Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 you need to use colon, not slash when using port numbers - ie mydomain.com:8096

Painkiller88 249 Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) So to keep it clear: - You pointed your domain to your public WAN IP or a dynDNS service. - You entered the domain in the correct emby section - Are you using a SSL Cert or just unsecure connection? - is the Emby Port 8096 forwarded in your router to your local iP where your Emby is running on? (no Port forwarding means no way to reach from outside) - if your domain is really new, it can take up to 24 hours to update all DNS Zones In the emby section where it says external domain, just enter your domain NO Port, there is a seperate field for the ports. Don't trust the automatic port mapping, this only works if Emby and your Router has DLNA enabled. Go into your Router and forward the emby port manually eg: external Port: 8096 to internal port 8096 and to the internal ip of your emby server. PORTCHECK: https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ I would recommend using the port tester to see if your domain has the emby ports reachable from outside, if not, this is your problem. Please check these things and report the actual status Edited December 10, 2020 by Painkiller8818

So to connect to your server via APPS, you need to reconfigure the server on the app i am pretty sure you added it once using the local IP. You now need to change it to your now public available domain. If configured to public ip, this won't work unlease you use VPN. So eg. on a TV you need to enter your http://yourdomain.com and in the next field the correct port. This should work there is no difference between connecting through web or app if the domain is reachable.

When I do this it says not reachable so I go to the emby server on PC and it says auth failed in emby then in wan section it display mydaomin.com:8096 when I go to it nothing appears bit if I take out the port number :8096 in domain it does appear Edited December 10, 2020 by esin8785
Painkiller88 249 Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 oh and i forgot to mention if you don't use a SSL Cert, you need to disable the Secure Connectionmode in the network settings of your server.

I got to wait kids from another location are streaming from it right now lol can't fuck with that, they are connected through app using my IP not my domain Edited December 10, 2020 by esin8785
Q-Droid 989 Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 It sounds like you setup a Web redirect with GoDaddy and the apps don't like that. So GoDaddy is redirecting http://<FQDN>:80 to http://<WAN IP>:8096. Just let the name resolution do its thing and if you want a Web redirect for browsers, but not apps, then do something like http://emby.<FQDN>:80 to http://<FQDN>:8096.

Just let the name resolution do its thing and if you want a Web redirect for browsers, but not apps, then do something like http://emby.<FQDN>:80 to http://<FQDN>:8096. Right now the domain does go to my emby but only in browser if using the app the only way it connects is using the IP wan and it displays a IP with my port I click on it emby opens up the same is not true if I put in external domain name example mydomain.com. when you go to dashboard home it shows lan and wan lan is my home ip but my wan changes to my domain.com:8096 but when I click it nothing shows up. If I have DNS set up wrong in godaddy how do I resolve it same for ssl. I am using web redirect to my wan IP. When I go to my domain name it does not show IP unless you ping it via cmd or terminal or whatever My understanding is it can be done by changing port 8096 to 80 and 443 for the other is this correct? And opening those ports in my router if my ISP is not already blocking it which I think they are, so some mention dyns or something I'm so confused Edited December 10, 2020 by esin8785
Q-Droid 989 Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Don't worry about what the Emby dashboard says right now. What you want is name resolution (DNS) to point your domain to your WAN IP. You don't want ports involved, this is strictly name to IP address resolution. Your domain A record (or AAAA) should point to your WAN IP. I don't know how GoDaddy has this on their control panel. Having ports involved is an indication that you have a redirect setup. Ping or nslookup for your domain name might also show that the response doesn't match your WAN IP, because it's GoDaddy's and not yours. Get DNS working first then you can make sure Emby dashboard looks right, then test Emby apps and finally you can move on to SSL. If you don't have a fixed WAN IP you'll have to configure a dynamic DNS client to keep GoDaddy updated in case your IP changes.
Carlo 4561 Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Hi, @esin8785 if you're still having an issue getting this working send me a PM and we can do a remote support session. We can get you fixed up pretty quickly.
esin8785 1 Posted December 12, 2020 Author Posted December 12, 2020 I ran into a post limit yesterday for both pm and posting and today I had work so now I'm off, I reverted my forwarding back how I had it, remember anything I do to the DNS can takes up to 48 hours to shows on every dns server in the world so I can't just mess up and wait to find out that's where I'm screwed at, I have people streaming away from me using my ip for emby so If I change that to domain name they loose that so I need to be sure they can still use my domain name to actually log in Ive tried to no avail but Im a newb at this
Carlo 4561 Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 It's around midnight my time and I was up last night helping people across the pond so I need to catch a few Zs tonight. Send me a PM in the AM your time and we'll work out a time to do this tomorrow/later today.
Carlo 4561 Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Did a quick remotes session to setup Emby using emby.domain.ext and then switched how DNS was setup on GoDaddy and it's working fine now.
esin8785 1 Posted December 13, 2020 Author Posted December 13, 2020 (edited) Want to thank Cayars for the work he did, may of been simple but it wasn't for me now I understand more thank you so much for your help, I will need help to set up a webpage for redirection to emby.mydomain.com later on that way when they go to www.mydomain.com it will redirect them to the right page. I used to do webpages so I'm not scared of that part I'm just never done hosting on my own machine only hosting with a provider so that I will need help with unless someone knows of a free provider Edited December 13, 2020 by esin8785
Carlo 4561 Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 It's our pleasure to assist you! If something changes and you need help, let us know. Don't be afraid to reach out to us or me via PM. If you would prefer www.yourdomain.ext or just yourdomain.ext without a host name (just the domain), I can help you set this up very quickly. It's a 2 minute job for me to help you if you're already logged into both Emby and your domain provider (like you were previously). You made it quick and simple! While it would be faster for me to just make the changes for you, I could also walk you through the 2 changes you need to make here in the forums as well so you learn a bit from it. Your choice, let us/me know. Carlo
esin8785 1 Posted December 13, 2020 Author Posted December 13, 2020 I surely will, it's okay to leave as is I want to make a webpage for the family to upload there photos and what not so it's best that way 1
