hgewald 8 Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Hello, I just transferred a giantic set of pictures (150 GB) to my QNAP in order to watch the family pics via emby. Now a scheduled task started to "convert media". I am not 100% sure that it is converting the .jpgs (why would it convert these?), or something else. 1) Is there a way to find out which files emby is converting? 2) What is the other scheduled task "transfer media" doing? Thanks for enlightening me H.
Luke 42077 Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Quote 1) Is there a way to find out which files emby is converting? Hi, whatever media you scheduled to convert by using the "Convert media" feature. Quote 2) What is the other scheduled task "transfer media" doing? Same answer as above. This transfers the converted result to it's destination.
hgewald 8 Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 I have a German installation. What is emby's German term for "convert media" and where do I find this feature? I lookd around everywhere but did not find a corresponding function. I assume there is no point in converting jpg files...
Luke 42077 Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 @cayars can point you to our KB article. You can check out the original announcement for it here:

hgewald 8 Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 Thank you! I read the article. However, I do not want to convert my photos. But I cannot find an option to not convert (only options to manage the conversion). Do I have to convert everything?

The feature does not do anything unless you actually use it. Are you using it?
hgewald 8 Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 That is a good question. I would say no (I have never intenionally used it). However, there are two scheduled tasks running wich are converting and transferring hpotos. So appreantly I must have started it somehow. How can I stop it and prevent it from doing further conversions of this specific folder?
Luke 42077 Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 The scheduled tasks are also used by the download features from mobile apps, folder sync, cloud sync. So you could have used any of those features.
hgewald 8 Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 I think I found it. I deleted the running tasks and now it stoped... I hope I did not damage anything
Luke 42077 Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 I wouldn't worry about stopping the scheduled task. The task is only running because you asked the server to do something that requires it. So I would instead go to that, and cancel whatever that is. You can check the Conversions and Downloads section of the server dashboard.
hgewald 8 Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 Thanks Luke, all looks good now. I have no idea why the "photo" folder tried to convert its media... Must have been me, but I do not recall initiating it. However, all good now. Best H.
