So, I went out and bought a Shield. I was having some stuttering issues with the Roku and apparently it doesn’t support Atmos, Dolby Vision, etc.

So with the shield, how do I know I’m getting HDR? I don’t see any type of logo appear when playing. However, I do see if on the details section before playing the movie. It says 4K HDR.

Thanks for sticking with me on this one.

That depends on the TV model. On the TV remote control there is usually an INFO button that informs about the resolution, sound, dynamic range that the TV is working on. What's your TV?

I have a very similar question.

When I watch an HDR on my Sony TV through the Emby AndroidTV app...the TV detects the HDR and sets itself to HDR mode.

When i watch an HDR movie on my Roku...the TV doesnt seem to know it is HDR...but if I manually set it to HDR mode, it appears identical in picture quality (as far as I can tell).  I even took photos of the same scene on my phone and compared them full size on my computer monitor.  I cant tell the difference.

Does this sound right?    Some reading suggests that  if my TV doesnt auto detect then it's really not HDR...but I dont know how it could look the same if it wasnt applying HDR properly.

Gotcha.  I didn’t even think to look there and was focused on the app itself telling me if it was passing HDR.

Looks like it’s coming through correctly.
