Audiobooks stopped sync'ing local metadata

Hey all,

Unsure if it was the new patch, but I've been reworking my audibook metadata as I migrate away from Plex. When trying to refresh my metadata, it isn't seemingly doing anything. Any idea whats going on? I didn't see anything in the log that caught my eye.

Emby shows both the album and artist as "Brave New World".

However, the ID3 tag is correct:

Been poking at this a bit. Some updates:

  • It does not seem to be the upgrade. Downgraded to 4.5.2.0 from 4.5.3.0 and I'm seeing the same issue. Not sure what I broke since I don't remember changing anything.
  • It doesn't seem like a permissions issue because the media plays.
  • I can change the name in Emby manually and when I re-sync metadata it fixes the title. However, it will not seem to pull any other metadata. If I re-sync images, it deletes the album image and does not re-sync that either.
  • It looks like emby still queries the metadata providers when they're turned off which seems odd:

Update 2:

I figured out a partial fix to one of my problems. "Image Extractor" must be enabled to pull local images. I assumed it was internet metadata. This has resolved my issue with not being able to pull images but my issue with artist metadata not pulling remains.

Update 3:

Well, I've mostly resolved my problem and it was (mostly) user error. I noticed that some audiobooks updated and some didn't. The difference I eventually noted is that if an album has ever gotten linked to a metadata provider (e.g. musicbrainz), it will continue to pull from there regardless of the settings. This makes this statement untrue:

Due to the above statement, I didn't bother looking for existing metadata provider links.

I say mostly resolved because there is still one album/audiobook whose metadata is not syncing.

Update 4:

After fixing post #2 and #3, 2 total audiobooks refused to update artist information. I ultimately removed the media from the library and re-added it which resolved the issue for those two albums. Marking post 3 as the predominant fix.

My vote would be to clarify in the metadata editor that existing linked metadata will still be prioritized (or allow a feature to always prefer local metadata over internet metadata).
