cnwinger 8 Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 By default, Emby uses the first photo in a photo folder as the "Primary" folder thumbnail. If you use the 'Edit Images' option to replace the thumbnail with a photo in the folder of your selection, it is eventually overwritten and goes back to the first photo in the folder again. I'm not sure what triggers this - possibly an Emby version upgrade? But it's happened to me over and over. It usually takes a week or two. Is this a known issue? Is there any way to prevent this? Thanks.
Solution Happy2Play 9788 Posted December 1, 2020 Solution Posted December 1, 2020 There is another topic on this but currently you are required to have a custom/static image within the folder for that folder to properly maintain that image(poster/folder.ext). When the custom/static image is written to \metadata\library\xx\xxxxxxxx the dynamic image process clears that image and uses first image in said folder.

Not sure I quite understand the bolded part - do I need a separate image that is named a specific way as a workaround for each folder?

Yes, from a folder image standpoint they needs to be in the folder. Otherwise you get what you already see, dynamic image process changes the image.

Happy2Play 9788 Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Yes folder or poster. Example this C folder shows the assigned folder image
cnwinger 8 Posted December 1, 2020 Author Posted December 1, 2020 (edited) Perfect, thanks! I knew it worked that way with Movies and TV Shows, but I never tried it with Photo folders. Of course, the downside is you then end up with 2 of that same photo in the folder slideshow, just so you can set the folder thumbnail...whereas setting it using the 'Edit Images' options doesn't result in an extra image.
