Problem: Can't play ripped some DVD content in apps (after latest server upgrade?)

I've got four seasons of "Community" on DVD ripped. I can play Season 1 and Season 4. But Season 2 and 3 won't play.

• MKV files play in MPV directly
• Emby in web browser, episodes play
• Emby Theater on Windows, episodes don't play
• Emby Theater on Shield, episodes don't play

I tried deleting the season and adding it back it, and that didn't fix the problem.

I've attached logs that I think cover me trying to play an episode and failiing on the Shield and succeeding in the browser.

I think server and clients are up to date.

Emby Server on Windows 10.

 

I appreciate any help. I don't want to re-rip the episodes, especially if if may not actually do any good, since the files aren't corrupted.

Hi, the ffmpeg log is from playing in chrome. Do you have examples from where it didn't play?

I went to emby theater on the shield and tried to play an episode. The only log file generated is this one.

The play time was about 2:23pm local time

Doesn't look like Shield generates Server logs on the Windows server PC. I tried playing a file that works, and no transcode / hardware log.

I clicked the "Send Logs" button in the Emby Theater on Shield app, in case that helps.

What version of the Android app are you using?

And if it's not playing in Theater on your PC, it might be easier to use that to troubleshoot.

Now it's stopped playing files that it would play an hour ago.

Its confusing, because ET on Windows no longer plays videos it would previously. 

A little more testing, ET on Windows just doesn't play stuff right anymore on my PC, apparently. That's a different issue from Shield which generally works,.

ET on iPad plays everything fine.

ET on Shield does not.

Side load this version on your Shield, and try again

I'll try to find time to figure out how to side load an app.

 

But that's not the Android TV version? Not sure that's a long-term solution for me. But will try to install it.

• ET on iPad works

• ET on LG TV (WebOS) works

• ET in Windows Edge (Chrome) works

• ET on Shield won’t play two seasons of a show

• ET on Windows also has problems, but might be other problems with ET on my PC 

It seems something specific to AndroidTV, and not with my rip, the server, or my library metadata. 
I’ll try to do the side load, see what that shows.

How do I get logs from Emby on Shield TV? There didn't seem to be any way to get logfiles from streaming devices running Emby.

And Emby on my Windows 10 PC wasn't working at all, so I can't get a log from it.

Try using X-plore. It will allow you to transfer the log to your PC.

Thanks I don't know much about Android or the Shield beyond installing the major apps to watch streaming stuff.

I installed X-Plore on my Shield. Can you tell me where to find the Emby logs in the Shield system? I'll got and hopefully find some useful data to diagnose this problem. Thanks.

Same problem on Emby on my Sony TV,  which uses Android.

 

works normally in web browser, iOS, and webOS emby.
