http://app.emby.media/ not working

Hey All,

Been using Emby for a while now.  Had it working with my old ISP for a few years, and I love it.  Just recently upgraded my ISP, so new router, new setup, all that jazz, which means me, who hates networking, has to dive back into it.

Not even looking at the remote connections right now, but the puzzling thing is I can connect to my server locally using the In-Home IP, but can't using http://app.emby.media for some reason.  I tried local apps (android / firestick) and everything works, just not http://app.emby.media.  This is how I always connect from any of my PCs.  I can just connect using the IP address, but it annoys me that this isn't working.

app.emby.media is not a optimal LAN connection option as it requires Remote access to work.  So if Remote access does not work online http://app.emby.media will not work.

Well I guess that answers the question of if remote access is working.  I'll keep at it.

Thank you

Actually no it does not require remote access to work.

It is just like any other emby app and can connect internally over there lan as well.

Any idea why it wouldn't be? Remote access is up and running and everything seems to be working inside the network and out, with the exception of app.emby.media. Like I said l, not a huge deal, but it irks me a bit.

What happens when you open it up in a browser?  Have you tried both http and https?

I am confused why anyone would use app.emby.media on a LAN?

Are you using Connect login or manually adding server?

Have you tried unlinking username from user, then readding it?

Well if you bookmark app.emby.media it can be used local or remote so I think that's a reason people do it that don't have their own domain or DDNS.

I still don't see how this works as it will not work for me unless I enable "Allow remote connections to this Emby Server." for the user.

But after I enable this option and logged in I was able to disable this option.  Actually logged off, closed the tab and was unable to log back in as I disabled option above.

Both are the same.  It hangs for a while then asks me what server I want to log into, likely based on what is logged into the browser (from Emby connect I suppose), then says the server is unavailable.

Very odd.  Maybe it does have something to do with settings in my cache.

I just turned off remote access to myself and the server.

I just opened that URL in a browser.  Hit SKIP to not use Emby Connect.  I typed in my local IP address and was able to log right in.

Are you logging in with Emby Connect or clicking SKIP on that page and entering the server IP/name?

I can log into the server from the URL with the IP address directly (example: http://192.168.2.32:8096/web/index.html#!/home), but if I use the app.emby.media URL, it doesn't work in any browser.  If I choose skip as you mentioned and enter the exact same IP and port that's in the link above, it doesn't work.

Maybe it's just something my modem is doing to prevent traffic looping through the LAN?  I'm pretty much a noob about networks.

From a clear browser cache, yes I can select Skip and manually input local info and log in.

But if I clear browser cache login with Connect I can not login to listed server.  I would assume Connect will require Remote Access to cache stuff.

So specific context is need as just app.emby.media not work is not enough information.

What does this mean?  Errors? What happens?

I cleared cache and browser information and was able to log in through http://app.emby.media using the option to skip and enter the IP manually.  HTTPS still doesn't work (the error is the following).

Connection Failure

We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again.

Good enough for me.  Thanks everyone.

I honestly don't see how this would ever work on HTTPS unless you have a certifcate for your lanip.  But can say I get the same results.

But works fine using my https://DDNS address.

That is correct and expected behavior. If you're on the https version of the web app, then you can only connect to https urls.

if youir using the new Firefox with it set to Https only this will also induce the error that states "we're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again". I found this out the hard way was able to narrow it down by switching to Vivaldi browser and would connect no problem even though all settings and extensions are identical with the exception of the Firefox new setting. i have both Firefox and Vivaldi installed on my computer and use them to troubleshoot each other on occassion sometimes when i run inmto something not allowing me to connect or goofy display or whatever else acts weird.

Yes so just make sure to use the https version of the site, though you'll need to have https setup on your emby server in order to be able to use that.

I'm aware of that Luke but made the statement for those who have been using the http site locally and then suddenly they have this occur without realizing that it would cause them to require to use the https setup like it did me when i set Firefox to the https only setting not realizing it would induce this took me a little while to figure out my mistake and correct for it. Admittedly setting up for the https website is the safer way to go but Emby does default to the http setup and if many are not aware of this conflict caused by the new Firefox settings it will cause headache and frustration as it did me before it finally dawned on my what I had self induced. Considering that in the future Firefox plans to make the https setting to be the default rather than a concous choice setting as it is now, in the future when that occurs it may catch users off guard or unaware of this including any family or friends that they may have that complain about not being able to access it as before suddenly then can use as a troubleshooting step to help them ie. asking them if they set it and if so how to fix it.

If you haven't guessed it by now I am a lifetime member in the self inflicted bullet hole in the foot club as well as the permanent possessor of the Dunce cap in the school of hard knocks. So I believe in sharing my mistakes and solutions in the hopes of reducing my competition for those titles. <chuckles>

So was I right that this is what happened and you were trying to use the https version?

yes in my case i had set Firefox to only allow access to https sites but i was trying as the original poster indicated via bookmark trying to access the http website locally ie in my house on the same network. Firefox would not allow me to access with the aforementioned error message. even after clearing the browser cache
