Problem with tag duplicates

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hey there,

I'm having trouble with using tags. Even though the same tag is used, emby creates duplicates of that entry. I've checked the nfo files, the tags look exactly the same there. As I've used a lot of tags, I used emojis to sort the tags for the filters. Yesterday some tags were displayed with '??'.

This has worked for me for over a year now. I think the duplicates started with the update to 4.5. Is anyone else having these issues?

Oh, btw I'm using the official emby docker, but I think this is more likely to be a general issue if there is any.

Hi there, can you please go over an example? Thanks.

Well I've reverted back to a 4.4 version and the issue is gone. So I guess something is handeled differently in 4.5.

There are 2 libraries I've tagged and used manual genres for. Both of them are set up as series, one for home videos the other for adult content, but it happend on both of them so I go over an example of the home videos.

I've used the tags to mark the countries and the sight or events. So basically the tags look like this:

🌍 USA, 🌍 Deutschland, 🌍 England, 🌍 Dänemark

🏙️ New York City, 🏙️ Berlin, 🏙️ London

📍 Niagara Falls, 📍 Empire State Building, 📍 Tower Bridge

In 4.4, clicking on a tag shows all files tagged with say 📍 Niagara Falls. In 4.5 it doesn't. If I add a new video and use the tag a duplicate gets created. In the filter options in "Episodes" tab I can see the same tag twice. Choosing the different tags brings different results. I even checked the NFO files to see if there was a space or something, but they are spelled exactly the same.

What are the steps to reproduce exactly?

That's pretty hard to tell, as it seems that stuff that was tagged before 4.5 seems correct and the duplicate tags (and genres) were produced after the update. But I can't quite narrow it down as there are tags with more than two duplicates. Maybe this happened after the version updates in 4.5?

It happens during the normal manual tagging process, so it's nothing out of the ordinary.

I might try and go back to 4.5 this weekend and start testing and see if I can find out when the duplicates are produced.

@Happy2Play are you able to reproduce?

Copy and pasted the tags provided above without issue.  No doubling or linking outside that tag.

I was able to reproduce this.

1. I set up a completly new server running Emby 4.4  and created a small series library.

2. I tagged a couple of episodes. Everything looks good.

3. Update to emby:latest (4.5)

4. Tagged a couple of other episodes and it starts creating duplicates again!

how are you adding the images to the tags?

have you tried without images

have you tried a 4.5 test install and added the tags with and without images?

I'm adding the emojis using my phone and have been for about 1 1/2 years.

I haven't tested it without the images until now. This seems to work. In a quick test I haven't seen duplicates.

Haven't tried a fresh 4.5 install yet. But I'm currently on a train. I'll be trying that as well tonight.

Oh by the way reverting back to 4.4  I still had the duplicates but a refresh metadata seemed to fix this. I already tried that on 4.5 and it didn't work there.

so the images may be the problem - i wonder if the url can change as its being pulled from some online source

Yeah looks like it.

Out of curiosity I tried to refresh the metadata again on the test install in 4.5 and this time it worked. It might be the much larger library but, I might try again this weekend.
