crusher11 1101 Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 My LG TV doesn't seem to work with either PGS or VobSub. Is there any device that works with these formats? Or am I stuck converting everything to SRT/downloading subs for everything and hoping they sync? Which doesn't work if the subs have a custom font (Avatar for example) or are used for something else (the Men in Black MST3K thing).
Luke 42079 Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 Hi, yes LG doesn't support those. SRT is best for maximum compatibility across a broad range of devices.
Ronstang 294 Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 The Firestick 4Ks play everything I have ever thrown at them and everything I've tried (HEVC, Dolby etc.) direct plays so no transcoding and right now they are on sale for $30. Kind of hard to beat for what you get.
crusher11 1101 Posted November 24, 2020 Author Posted November 24, 2020 Those aren't a thing here. SRT is obviously ideal but as I mentioned in the first post sometimes the subs just aren't something that can be converted, and using the original subs is preferable anyway. So I'm wondering if there are options there.
Ronstang 294 Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 I don't know where there is but something tells me since the Firestick does everything over the internet it will work anywhere in the world.
crusher11 1101 Posted November 24, 2020 Author Posted November 24, 2020 Australia. Not sure how geolocking works regarding the app stores, and it'd have to plug in to a power source. For starters.

They are becoming the Overlord of the earth I can't believe a Firestick would not work Down Under.....and if you have a a USB quick phone charger you have a power supply. I just did a quick google search and they do sell them in Australia on Amazon.com.au and for the normal price of $69AU......which is the same as here in the US at $49....but they are on sale right now for Black Friday and something tells me if they ship them to you in Australia they probably have a power supply that will work for you there.
crusher11 1101 Posted November 24, 2020 Author Posted November 24, 2020 Those aren't the 4K ones, it's only a cheapy edition here.
Ronstang 294 Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 The Firestick 4K works in Australia, I just read a thread on Reddit that says it does. Not all features work but 4K, Netflix, all downloaded apps (which means Emby)....it is the Alexa Voice commands and Amazon Video which don't but for your needs it works fine. Just order one off Ebay or somewhere else or get a friend to order it where it's cheap and mail it to you.

Vobsub2srt for VOBSUB -> SRT Is it 100% accurate you ask? No, definitely not but it does the job for me. Might be something you wanna have a look at.
