Czarus 0 Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 (edited) Hi I have Samsung J series 2015 tv, turning it on like 4-5 times per year just to watch some old stuff from my emby premium home server i almost never use. Emby allways work on my iPads, iPhones or Windows pc's, but in same time almost allways there are some issues on my TV and it ends with lost hour of finding some kind of solution. This time i can load emby interface but movies are not playing, spinning circle. Tried fresh emby app install, changing wired and wifi connection etc, nothing work (again), while YouTube works (like allways) so its not really TV fault. Is there a solution that allways work no matter what, some kind of dongle, tv box something?. I mean - i know emby support various of devices and i can buy whatever will be needed, just dont want to troubleshoot why emby doesnt work each time i want to watch something. It would be great if that box had simmilar pilot with pointer like samsung tv's have (and emby doesnt support). Thanks in advice and sorry for posting here, didnt found suitable place to ask this question. Edited November 22, 2020 by Czarus
Luke 42092 Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 Hi there, can we please look at an example? Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks ! 1
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 While I do not know if it is related to the problem you are having "Smart" TVs are notoriously unreliable clients in many cases and Samsungs seem to often have problems. The first thing I would suggest is trying to use a client like Roku or Fire TV or Shield TV or any of a number of Android devices connected to your TV and see if that reduces or eliminates the problem. Personally, in your case and given that they are on special right now I would try a Fire stick. I think you can get the 4K model for $29.95 or so right now on pre-Black Friday specials on Amazon. hey, both Amazon and Emby, have fixed most of the problems the sticks once had. If you get a stick I recommend a short HDMI extension cable to get it away from the back or side of the TV. TVs are often quite electronically noisy and that can interfere with wireless signals. Rokus are also a good choice. I use Rokus (Ultras) for 80-90% of my streaming. @Luke asked for an example but, in this case, I doubt it will do much good as the nature of the problem, from your description, is that it is very intermittent and your usage of that TV is also intermittent. One question I have that I think you mostly answered in your original post is: "Do you have other devices that work well with your server?" Lastly: Your most reliable device would be something like a Roku Ultra hooked up wired to your router as that avoids any problems with wireless interference and such. 1
Carlo 4561 Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 I'd recommend connecting an Android box myself to the TV. If you want a device that's a bit more open and allows for more software to be installed as well as easy sideloading without breaking the bank I'd recommend a MiBox S. They run about $60/usa 1

Czarus 0 Posted November 24, 2020 Author Posted November 24, 2020 Thank you all for help. I bought Fire Stick 4k (they are on sale currently). After initial updates and setup, installed Emby and it works perfectly. Since i live in europe, Roku is a bit harder to get here, but that stick will be enough. No more installing emby from pendrive \o/.
