dawkid 5 Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 This is getting annoying. It doesn't happen all the time, and it doesn't seem to happen when playing videos, but when playing music it will skip every couple of minutes. Any idea what could be happening? I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. Log attached. The log file was too large so I had to break it in two parts, but it would not let me upload both parts so this is the second half. embyserver-63741513604-Part-2.txt
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 is it consistent - i.e. only some tracks do it?
dawkid 5 Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 It is consistent in that it is worse on some specific files. For example I have a couple of mp3s that were extracted from a music video so they are multiple songs in one large mp3. They are the worst. Playing an album with a list of mp3s, still happens but it doesn't seem to be as often.
dawkid 5 Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 These files used to play without skipping so this is fairly recent. I think, maybe within the last few months. Oh, I didn't realize I could upload another file, so here is part 1 of the log. embyserver-63741513604-Part-1.txt
dawkid 5 Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 Gotta hit the sac. It is 2:00 AM here.
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 to eliminate the files as the cause can you run them through http://mp3val.sourceforge.net/ so we know the files are ok and not damaged etc
dawkid 5 Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 Thank you for that. I didn't know it existed. I ran a scan on the most recent worst offending file. It was OK. I also have HDD Guardian installed and the drive is healthy.
dawkid 5 Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 Of note. It seems like it happens only on the Sony BDP S3700 blu-ray players. We mostly use these, (we have 2) for streaming from Emby. I did a quick test using a Firestick 4K and I didn't notice any skipping. I will have to do a more extensive test later, when I have more time.
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 are the files direct playing or transcoding? IIRC those players are Android? if so do you have downmix to stereo set - might be a hw limitation - or changes in exo player etc etc
dawkid 5 Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 The file in question was not transcoding, at least there was no ffmpeg log during that time. The latest ffmpeg log was on 11/18.
dawkid 5 Posted November 21, 2020 Author Posted November 21, 2020 OK, so I had a few minutes this afternoon to run a test. I made sure there were no devices talking to Emby using DLNA. I restarted Emby. I started one of the Sony BDP S3700 blu-ray players and started playing the long mp3 that I tested with mp3val. The music would skip about every 3 to 4 minutes. I was monitoring task manager through nomachine ( the server is in the basement), and I noticed a large spike in network usage right at the time of the skip. Here is a much cleaner log file. embyserver.txt
Luke 42083 Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 There's a good chance that it's resolved for theĀ next release of the server. thanks.
