Macburp 112 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2014-07/29/microsoft-intel-raspberry-pi-board Add case and ir receiver and you have a low cost windows client box. Thoughts?
fantaxp7 191 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 $300 seems like a lot compared to the $35 raspberry pi. And honestly the Atom cpu doesn't excited me anymore. However this could be a good breakthrough for devices like Roku.
Lee 212 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Would be cheaper to just buy the atom NUC at £80... Sent by lumia 1020 & Tapatalk 1
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Very expensive and doesn't have a lot of benefits. By the time you're done and have a working machine, you could have bought components and built a decent smaller form factor PC. 1
saajan4u 79 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 190 quid for an atom crap.. NOT digging that for some reason
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 You can get a Celeron NUC from Amazon for less than $150. It has IR support. Add in $30-$50 for a SSD Drive and another $40-$50 for 4GB of RAM and you're good to go. You'll still have money to purchase an OEM license of Windows 7 and not go much over $300.
techywarrior 689 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 That board in the OP is really not meant for things like this. It's designed/priced for OEM's looking to have a single board that they can use to plug devices in in order to prototype and/or write drivers etc. 1
