bakes82 167 Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 When is dolby vision going to be supported on the shield? I have many TS and mkv files that play in plex with DV, but same files in Emby just show HDR. Im using Nvidia Shield with whatever latest version from store is.
bakes82 167 Posted November 18, 2020 Author Posted November 18, 2020 Plex even shows me DV info if the file is a MKV not a ts. As the MKV is the new way. Why is emby lacking DV support on shield? Its the premier device for this stuff. Emby - nada.
Luke 42078 Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 The video player that we're both using only supports it with mkv. It looks like they may have extended it to work with ts files as well. That's something we can look at in future updates. Thanks.
bakes82 167 Posted November 18, 2020 Author Posted November 18, 2020 @LukeThe current androidtv app doesnt play MKV DV files on shield.

bakes82 167 Posted November 18, 2020 Author Posted November 18, 2020 What one of these does the shield support?
ebr 16177 Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 Hi. This should be in the TV app in the next beta round. Most likely after the US Thanksgiving holiday. 3

A feature here or there will also go back and forth. Emby is going to leave Plex so far behind shortly for Live TV that you won't even be able to see them in the rear view mirror. LOL

People arent playing for cable TV, nor are they looking to interface it with a streaming service like Emby. How does emby work when the only way to get tv is thru SpectrumTV app and there is no coax etc? Seems like you guys dont understand where people are getting their media from. You should maybe do some research, but IDK how stuff is over there in the UK, but in the USA live tv is dead. https://www.forbes.com/sites/bradadgate/2020/11/02/the-rise-and-fall-of-cable-television/?sh=7e29bfd26b31

Carl Sassenrath the inventor of the Amiga OS.. is on the board of TIA. So it does include some very talented people. Where I live is a very small community of like minded people who donate to keep this organization doing what they do best. Providing over-the-air service to approximately 89,000 people across 120 miles. If enough people want something it happens. You can't expect to get everything for free. When you want something not on OTA broadcast television you pay for it. This is how the economy works. Leeching off a system depletes the resources. DRM is how you get those pay channels onto OTA. Then you need a consumer appliance to decode that digital rights management. This is business and not charity. Remember that. https://www.rabbitears.info/search.php Find an OTA near you. CBers 7450 Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 @bakes82 Before you continue to bemoan Emby, just realise that there are many ex-Plex users that are now happy Emby users. Whether people use Live TV or not, should not be a concern of yours if you do not use it. Carry on testing Emby for your eventual transfer and make relevant posts, but no need to start flame wars. This is a friendly community.

Remember that I didn't mean that TV should be free, I meant that depending on which areas OTA is being massively replaced by OTT services with DRM using the ISP's software and hardware. I also want to note that I am very satisfied with Emby's Live TV, but unfortunately my ISP has put DRM on all channels and I have been forced to use their software. This is a friendly community. I am an ex-Plex user, mostly. I still keep a Plex server active but I rarely use it as it simply is too clumsy to use. I also have zero chance of getting any OTA signal and all attempts to get a repeater on top of the hill that blocks signal has been stopped in the courts because of "exclusive" contracts that Spectrum has with most of the cities in the area. However I do not miss OTA at all. In fact the only time I have watched any "live" TV was during the Women's World Cup and a few other soccer broadcasts. I have found that I do not need any live TV, even for the sports I mentioned, as I do not really enjoy live sports as much as I thought I did. For me waiting for the various TV shows and movies I am interested in to reach streaming is perfectly fine. I do not need the immediate gratification that live TV provides. It is well to remember that not everyone has any reasonable access to live TV. For me it is not needed or really wanted and that is good because to only access I could have to live TV would be either a streaming service, like Sling, or subscribing to cable. There is no other real alternative. For me the trick is to not mind waiting for the shows I want to see to become available. I really do not care if others want/need live TV of some kind it is just for me that I do not need or even want it.

I think the people who are doing the live tv/iptv stuff arent in the USA, like ebr is England, so I dont think they understand in the USA we dont do IPTV and prob never will, to many issues with licensing the stream and whos going to pay for it and who gets ad revenue etc. I find emby to be more clunky/slow than plex atleast on the UI.

That is pretty common knowledge and has been expected for years to happen. It will hit a certain point and then hold. However it's still a HUGE number. With 82.5 million households having cable and with 2.6 people average per household that's 214.5 million people with cable in the US. There are only 328.2 million people living in the US to it's still by far the MAJORITY of people who have and pay for cable! What that article really doesn't touch on is that OTA has been increasing as it's free to use once you have an antenna. With stand alone tuners these OTA broadcasts are easy to incorporate and use in Emby. OTA is getting more and more popular while cable is decreasing. ATSC 3.0 is starting to roll out now in the USA and will help make more channels available as well in a few years as less bandwidth is needed per channel. Most of the shows people watch and record are actually broadcast on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox which are covered I believe in all US OTA markets. Local OTA TV channels are what people use for News and local sporting events which are a big part of many people's viewing habits, not just shows and movies. Approximately 90% of the US population is able to receive OTA broadcasts and this is increasing. So TV use is NOT declining but shifting and Emby has these covered regardless if it's Cable TV, IPTV or OTA broadcast (free), but is getting a big improvement soon that will leave other solutions in the dust.

We do have devs from many different parts of the world using different technologies for TV as well. I think you're a bit out of touch with reality of what users want. At least with Emby as you can read our forums and see what users have been asking for and TV is a huge part of Emby use.
