Duplicate artist showing in desktop browser only

This is a strange one - I have one artist in my music collection (Queen) that is showing up multiple times but only using a desktop browser. See attached screenshot

I've tried two different Windows 10 computers and two different browsers - Chrome & Firefox. I logged out of Emby and cleared the cache in Chrome, no change. Firefox was a fresh install. Also tried on my Chromebook with the same results

If I select one of the duplicates and press play it will play just one song. See attached screenshot, you can see at the bottom of the song that is playing. You'll notice the entry has no song info.

When I open the Android app on my phone and tablet it only shows one entry for Queen (band picture - the correct entry). See attached screenshot

I removed the files from my collection, made sure they were not showing up in Emby, added them back. Same results. Stripped the tags (they came badly tagged), cleaned them up, removed/re-added to collection, scan, same results.

Hi, if it were me I'd move all the Queen out of your library and rescan the library.
Then I would run all Queen material through Picard having it overwrite all meta data.
Then add this back to Emby and rescan.

But I already did all that. I also do not see the need to add another app to tag my files. I've used Media Monkey & Mp3Tag as long as I can remember and it hasn't affected any of my other files.

They may or may not have removed old tags that Emby will read.  When in doubt it's best to use a method that has proven to work well for others.

IMHO that is using Picard on the problem albums and doing what I mentioned above.

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

This happens for Mismatched tags usually AA and MusicbrainzAlbumArtistid.  In MP3TAG you will need to compare Extended tag or add the Musicbrainz columns to the UI to possibly see the issue.

But devs would have to explain why the web client and Android app produces different results.  That would suggest they are doing different queries.

That's my question. It displays the single artist just fine on 3 different Android devices

I'll check the extended tag as suggested in the other comment and see what happens

What's happening is that artist is still tagged to one or more songs, but not any albums. The artist screen currently doesn't show songs, so that's why you click the artist name and end up seeing it blank.

But that is the only album by the artist that I have. There are no other songs or albums by the artist(s) in the collection. And why does it show something completely different when I view it in the android app? One thing I forgot to mention in my original post I was using the Audiodb plugin for metadata (no musicbrainz installed). It has since be removed, again

I did remove all tags again and was sure to remove extended tags. I retagged with Mp3tag (sorry, not installing yet another app) and while the extra entries are gone and only showing one entry for Queen in the browser, artist info is all about Freddie Mercury. No matter what I do or how many times I fresh that information keeps populating

Hi, can you zip up this album and post it for us to take a look at?

Could be a old database issue or changes in current beta 4.6.0.6, but dropped the album in a Queen folder within my test music library and had no issues. Artists and Album Artist shows one entry for Queen.  With the beta branch adding songs to artist view this should be easier to identify.

musicbrainz and audiodb metadata enabled.

Devs still need to comment why Android app provides different results then the web client.

Ya'll know it was never a tag issue, right?

It is, but the next version of your web app will just just it better like the other apps you're mentioning, so it will likely never come up again after that.

So we are just ignoring the fact that it just randomly decided that my one Queen album needed to be split into what ... 10 different artists? Was never a problem before - but now the tags caused it?

🤨

Luke said he's fixing it in the web app so you won't have to worry about it in the near future.

Do you see the same via app.emby.media?

same what?

Happy2Play is asking if you get the same results using the built in web app or from app.emby.media which is the cloud hosted version.
