GiGo 108 Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 Just curious to know why 4:3 thumbnails never display correctly when they auto download, it scales them to 16:9, if you search/select a new image (or keep the original) in edit images it then rescales it to 4:3. It's not just on 1 show, it's on others too. It's not the biggest deal but bugs the hell out of me when watching some older shows, screen shot below, I've searched for the thumbnail on Episode 1 and it's gone to 4:3 unlike the others.
AdrianW 1058 Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 It does the same thing with thumbnails that are wider than 16:9 - e.g. 2:1 - they all get distorted to 16:9.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 Same discussion here. @Luke there is a glitch here as I just took a look at 4:3 image via edit image and it then changes from 16:9 to a 4:3. Same thing was happening in CA also. Would have to remove or add more test media to test more. @GiGo If you select edit image on one of the images shown as 16:9, then back out of edit image and refresh the page does the image appear properly?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 (edited) Not sure if this is another majority rules like shown in Genre (but all images are 400x300), but I am testing with 5 episodes in Cheers. Adding the Series and episode shows episode in 16:9 Then after selecting edit image on 3 episodes and backing out of edit, then refreshing the page they convert to 4:3 Removing the show, doing a library scan, then readding the show they appear as 16:9. This is reproducible every time with these steps Note testing was done with CA episode treatment set to ignore With CA enabled I can change episode 1 and 2 (steps above) while 3-5 remain 16:9. But as soon as 3 changes it automatically changes 4 and 5. Edited November 11, 2020 by Happy2Play

But you are correct, I've done the same, edited 4, refreshed went to 4:3, edited 5, refreshed, then edited 8 and refreshed, after the refreshed all the 16:9 images went 4:3
Luke 42077 Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 We'll take a look at it. Thanks for reporting.
Maisy 37 Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 I took this screenshot recently: For some reason my 2nd season of of Evening Shade had a cartoon picture for episode 3 so I opened the file in VLC and took a snapshot where I wanted, even with blackbars on the video vlc took a nice 4:3 photo, it looks great up there. I was surprised that it worked ... so much so that I really don't want to HAVE TO DO THAT for ever episode for all the 4:3 content I have. Some of the 4:3 content I have trimmed the blackbars off, not most things yet though. How beautiful it looks in the vertical mode, but it could look beautiful on next up horizontal too. I was checking out the picture there on the next episode is a totally different size, but not smooshed so ... it seemed weird then I checked several of the episodes with edit image and there are no thumbnails available for most of them online, so for this show it probably would serve me better to screenshot every one of the episodes. I was playing with the Cover plugin so some effects look weird. Here's a show I have taken the black bars off of and it looks uniform and wonderful in this screenshot I'm in the process of working on all 6 seasons and this part looks blah too. I hope some kind of fix can come out soon!
Maisy 37 Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Notable of this problem is on Android: 3.1.94 is what I have on phone and tablet, all the thumbnails are stretched, all of them. The ones in Emby Theater and on Chrome Browser look fine vertical and the couple of oddities I have in S2 of Evening Shade are still different and good on next up, but on Android they are all equally stretched, everywhere.
Luke 42077 Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 Hi, this should be improved with the newly released Emby Server 4.6.
