dlnqt 1 Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 I am not sure if I am overlooking something or not. I would like to be able to use the folder/filenames that I have rather then Emby read the NFO naming convention. If I take a folder with several movies in the series in it, it is hard to organize. If I am in folder view and sorted alphabetically, it will sort all of my files in that manner. But if I have the several movies in a series in the folder, I would like to see sorting by year as well so I can have the movies in order.
Carlo 4561 Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 Hi, could you explain this a bit better? Not sure what you mean when you say movies in a series folder. Any reason you're not setting up your files per the guidelines?https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159102-movie-naming
dlnqt 1 Posted November 7, 2020 Author Posted November 7, 2020 If i have 3 movies of a series in a folder I i would like for my files to display my files names and not the names in the NFO. I would like to have it display the first movie in the series first. I have my movies broken down like this Star Wars (1977) Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope (1980) Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1983) Star Wars Episode VI - Return Of The Jedi Because it reads the NFO name instead of the file name it sorts the files out of chronological order. I understand the naming guidelines, but that does not help with labeling of the movies in chronological order.

Each of those movies should be in it's own folder named the same as the movie name. Then you could create manually or use the Auto Box Plugin to create a Star Wars Collection for these.

I don't quite understand what's his folder structure, is he combining his "series" subfolder nested in main Movies folder or as a separate library?
Carlo 4561 Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 Think c:\movies\Star Wars c:\movies\Star Wars\(1977) Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope c:\movies\Star Wars\(1980) Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back c:\movies\Star Wars\(1983) Star Wars Episode VI - Return Of The Jedi Wrong folder structure and bad file naming that will cause issues.

Oh, that's messy. 1
