jriker1 20 Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 I'm working on a tool for downloading my favorite YouTube Channels video locally so I can keep track of what I've watched and haven't. Problem is Emby starts using random names of other shows and background art for these as I'd imagine it has no idea what they are. Is there something specific I would need to create, files with metadata, or way I name things or something that would allow Emby to say show a list of YouTube shows by top level being the Channel or User, and then each video under it based on it's name and a thumbnail, and date info. I can bake in data into each file when downloading or create metadata files or something, just looking what would make sense for Emby.
Luke 42080 Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Hi there, how are you naming them? Have you compared your file names to our naming guides?
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 (edited) You should probably create a new library just for these, turn off metadata fetchers (as there won't be any..), and rely on the screen grab to get the image. Metadata will have to be set manually. Collections or playlists are going to be your only option to 'group' content. Edited November 6, 2020 by rbjtech

Metadata will have to be set manually. Kind of figured that. So let's start with this: 1. Create a YouTube folder 2. Enable Advanced Settings 3. On Emby go to Library > New Library 4. For Content Type I went with Home videos & Photos 5. Display Name set to YouTube Shows 6. Added in my new main YouTube folder 7. Leave Enable photos checked. 8. Check Prefer embedded titles over filenames (wasn't sure about this but the YouTube data will be baked into the MP4) 9. Leave on realtime monitoring 10 I have Nfo unchecked. 11. Screen Grabber. I would think I would leave checked but if this is the thumbnail generator what would i do if I wanted my own? Like if I grabbed what was on the video on YouTube. Do we think Save artwork into media folders should be checked? Assume Download images in advance shouldn't be checked. 12. Generate video thumbnails set to Never OK so besides that, let's assume we want to download all the iJustine videos. How would I do this? Keep in mind I'm writing the program that will pull the videos, images, and metadata so whatever makes sense. So I create a folder called iJustine (https://www.youtube.com/user/ijustine) If I grab her picture next to her name, where would I put that and how would I name it? Assuming in the iJustine folder for starters. The for each video. It will be saved probably with the title of each video and each video I will grab the associated thumbnail on the site. Assuming I will dump both into the iJustine folder? Or a subfolder for each? How would I get the Thumbnail to be used? Same name as video but .jpg? With the title and let's say date of video, how would I get that populated in Emby? Some kind of NFO file? if the data is baked into the MP4 will Emby use it? Note if from a mess/cleanup perspective it matters, I will be watching these and deleting them when done. Thanks. JR Edited November 6, 2020 by jriker1
CBers 7451 Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Isn't downloading from YouTube against their T&C's? 2 1
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 (edited) If you run into specific issues we can probably help - but the beauty of Emby is it is very flexible and it can probably do what you want - it will need a bit of work from you (as it's primarily designed to use online metadata) - so in short, have a play and see what you can achieve. Yeah I've always thought it was decent but not that crazy. Like I created a YouTube folder or Library but can't create a library within a library so when I create folders Emby ignores them. Closest I can get is to say the content is random stuff then it just shows everything which may be what I have to do.
skidmarks 199 Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 So my suggestion would be IF i was doing such a thing... Use a mixed content folder Add items like you would if you were adding a TV Series to the library. "Show Name"/Season # (you can edit season name after to something more specific)/Episode Name Add appropriate poster / backdrops and such LOCK the items so they can not be changed!!
chacawaca 109 Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 You can use podsync + podcast emby plugin. what i like of this solution is in podsync you can keep lasted "number of your choice" episode of a playlist so you dont have to keep 200 podcast on your harddrive.
